Good Food, Cheap Drinks and Lots of Fun | Tropicante Costa Maya Mexico Review

Updated on April 30, 2014

Tropicante is a Must Do While in Costa Maya

We chose to visit Tropicante during our recent cruise. Reservations were made several weeks prior to arrival and Steve emailed all the information we needed to get a taxi and make it safely from the cruise port. The short taxi ride was only $2 per person! Upon arrival at Tropicante we were greeted by the staff and taken to our reserved location on the white sandy beach, where we had a table, chairs and loungers waiting. After a couple of minutes another staff member greeted us explained the activities available, gave us the free Wi-Fi password and asked us if we would like anything to drink. After being disconnected from all electronics for 5 days, the kids immediately logged into the Wi-Fi and checked their Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Once everyone was finished checking in back home, we ordered our first round of drinks. I ordered a large house margarita on the rocks($8), the kids had coke and orange soda and my wife a bottle water. The margarita was very good and just what I needed to get the day started.

The next hour or so was spent relaxing in the lounge chairs while the kids snorkeled off the beach. When the kids returned from snorkeling they wanted to see "more", so we booked a boat snorkel tour that was available 10 yards from us. The tour was $25 each and lasted about 1 hour. Snorkeling on the tour was decent and worth the $25.

After we returned from snorkeling we ordered a plate of chicken nachos and more drinks. This time it was a Corona for me. A variety of Mexican beers are available like Corona, Sol, Dos Equis, Pacifico, Modelo and Montejo. The nachos were ready very fast and were tasty. The nachos made me "thirsty" so I went inside to the Tropicante bar and ordered a Montejo. The bartender was very nice and even gave me a free shot of tequila :)

With a couple hours left before we had to be back on the ship, we decided to walk up the strip to browse some of the shops and then we settled our tab and packed up. We were pleasantly surprised when our total cost for the day including snorkeling came in at less than $100 for 4 people.

Thank you for such a fun and memorable time.
