Vacation - Brisbane Qld

Updated on December 31, 2011

Vacation Brisbane.

Brisbane is Queensland's capital city. Surrounded by beautiful big rivers (namely the Brisbane River), beaches and with a population of 2 million people although in the greater city of Brisbane there are now over 3 million people living in this rapidly growing city.

The famous Story Bridge crosses the Brisbane river along with all the new freeway bridges making Brisbane visibly very beautiful.

It is an ultra modern city with a vibrant nightlife and a very warm climate.

A small piece of history is that during World War 2 the great American General, Douglas MacArthur chose Brisbane to be his Australian Headquarters!

Accomodation in Brisbane.

In the city centre at 130 Williams Street is the sumptuous Conrad Treasury Luxury Hotel.

It is built inside two of Australia's grandest heritage buildings and is a beautiful change from the run of the mill hotels found in all cities around the world.

The buildings are Edwardian Baroque made from sandstone.

The rooms have reproduction furniture and 18 ft ceilings and marble bathrooms.

There is wonderful food and accommodation to cater for International celebrities and well known gamblers who stay here to gamble in the Casino..

If you love serene waterways, beautiful hotels and beaches in a tropical climate Brisbane has it all.The rivers and waterways are teaming with fish and crabs. Big crabs that are amazing to eat!

There are caravan parks and fishing spots along the Logan river where you can spend a great day of family fishing.

You must return the female crabs to the water unharmed and there is a bag limit on the males, but you are allowed to catch a good feed!

We stayed a week on the Logan, fishing and eating our catch for daily meals with fresh salads from the local green grocer. Wow! We had a heap of fun!

At night if you are game you can fish for bigger prey. At night the big guys prowl the river and you need real heavy gear!

Being half way up the east coast of Australia, from Brisbane you have a perfect location to take in so much of the north east, where a lot of the true outback is located.

Behind the city and inland are the Brisbane Ranges with all their beauty. Flora and fauna abound in this wonderful mountain range.

Brisbane city has tram cars like Melbourne, so it is a very calming and interesting city to get around, a little hilly in places but the way this city sits on the water and the hills is spectacular.

Evenings are warm, and dress casual, but if you want to dress to kill, there are plenty of night spots and fine dining places to be seen at your fabulous best!

Brisbane International Airport is connected to the city by rail.It is around 20 minutes by train to the city Central station.

The airport terminal incorporates a railway station which is available from lifts so you do not have to walk more than a few steps which makes for an easy trip from the airport to and from the city and your hotel.

Brisbane airport won an IATA Eagle award in 2005, one of only two Australian airports to do so.

Be aware that when you leave the air conditioned airport and train it can be very hot in the sun! The summer sun isn Brisbane is best enjoyed from under a palm tree win the shade with a tall drink.

The Kingsford Smith memorial houses the "Southern Cross" which is the famous Fokker F VIII aircraft Kingsford Smith flew across the Atlantic ocean in 1928 to make the first trans pacific flight.

A big rambling city, with lots of lovely trees and park-lands Brisbane is green right up to the CBD.

You may grow to love this city. Many vacationers have come back to live here as they just loved the feel of the place.
