Vacation Homes in Gladwin Michigan Sell for Less

Updated on August 16, 2019

The Advantages of Owning Your Own Vacation Home

Some people prefer to travel to different places on their vacation. Others find a niche in a favorite town or a favorite lake and look forward to visiting every summer. Buying a home in a resort town has its advantages, especially if it's on the lake.

One advantage is you can rent it out during those times when you are not on vacation. Renting your home out helps to offset the cost of the home and eventually you can turn a profit. Thankfully there a many real estate companies that are willing to oversee the rental for a reasonable fee.

Another advantage is that all the convenience of a home is already in your vacation home including your first aid kit, your sunscreen and mosquito spray. With most lake homes you already have a dock for your boat and a private beach area.

In Gladwin the summer and winter calendar are full of activities including the yearly musical at the amphitheater in the city park. A great place to forge friendships with like-minded people ( something you can't do if you travel from city to city.)

If you can imagine sipping margaritas with friends and watching the boats go by on the lake from your own beach or balcony without the exorbitant cost of living in a famous resort town, then Gladwin Michigan may be the vacation town you're looking for.

The benifit of not so well known resort towns.

If you try to buy a house in Traverse City on Lake Michigan you can expect to pay a high price and high taxes. Smaller resort towns can offer the same amenities at a much lower cost to you.

Popular resort towns are fun but expensive and they are not the only place that one can enjoy hunting, camping, fishing, snowmobiling, four wheeling, trail walking, skiing, and boating. Gladwin County boasts 71 lakes ranging from five acres to 1157 acres. And miles of trails, tracks, forests, and state parks.

In the city of Gladwin, along the Cedar River is a picturesque park, campground and picnic area in addition to tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, a playground and a beach for swimmers.

The Stone Cottage is a great place to take a leisurely walk and enjoy the variety of plants and flowers along the path. The greenhouse at the cottage has some of the freshest mixed greens, winter spinach, and carrots to purchase and take home for dinner.

The Oasis Salon and Spa cater luxurious treatments to visitors such as the, Purely Michigan Massage and Signature Facial.

For the golfer, Sugar Springs Golf Course is an excellent course, with well-maintained grounds and friendly staff and a golf camp for kids.

Whether you are looking for fine dining, fish fry or a great Ruben sandwich, Gladwin caters to all kinds of appetites.

In the winter you can hunt, ski the trails, snowmobile, and fish on the frozen lakes. All for much less money than high end resort towns.

Why Gladwin MIchigan is cost effective.

Although Gladwin is a resort town, it is home to a large local population. Therefore the grocery stores, restaurants, and entertainment are competitively priced.

The median home value in Gladwin County is around $90,000 but many homes sell for much cheaper. Homes on the lake, such as fixer-uppers, can go as low as $39,000 with a million-dollar lake view.

The median property tax in Gladwin is around $1,300 yearly. Making it a very cost-effective town to buy your second home in.

A second home ownership is possible

In conclusion, the small-town ambiance and resort-style amenities of Gladwin Michigan make it a winner for low cost, low maintenance homeownership. Enjoy years of hunting, fishing, swimming and just plain relaxing with a low mortgage and low taxes. Visit the lakes or visit a neighbor. Walk the many trails of Gladwin County, or shop in the surrounding towns. Visit the antique stores, the mom and pop shops or head on out for the Friday night fish fry. Forge friendships with other hunters, boaters, skiers, and snowmobilers.

If you're looking for a vacation place to call home, Gladwin Michigan is everything you could want for a second home at a price you can afford.
