Best Weekend Getaways Along the East Coast. A List of Great Family Vacations

Updated on August 8, 2018

Family Friendly Weekend Getaways

I have put together my list of the best weekend getaways along the East Coast and wonderful family vacations. I have visited each of these places myself. Many of the best east coast weekend getaways give us just what we need which is a time to relax and maybe see some places and things we've never seen before. These vacation getaways provide us with the time to spend with family and friends and some give us a chance to spend money which of course we all love to do when we're on vacation. Weekend getaways or longer vacations can be cheap getaways for short periods of time or longer if you so desire. I guess it all depends on what you're looking for. Some may be looking for beach, others sight seeing and others possibly golf or recreational activities. I will tell you about some of the best weekend getaways along the east coast.

Searching for the best hotel deals and best restaurants in the areas can be a chore so I will also try to include some of this kind of information on the areas I've visited such as The Kill Devil Grille on Beach Road. The food is fresh and awesome.

The Outer Banks, North Carolina

Last Spring I had the chance to go to a place I had never visited before. The Outer Banks in North Carolina was a great family friendly vacation with a lot to see and do. The biggest disappointment during that particular week in late March was the unusual rainy weather. Despite that, we still saw some awesome things and had a wonderful time.

The Sand Dunes were the most amazing giving us a feeling as if we were in the desert. Miles and miles of hills of sand made for a great day of climbing, kite flying and photo taking. The sand dunes were like nothing I have ever seen before. Another unique sight were the wild horses running on the beach. Another fantastic photo opportunity. Our entire family stayed in a 12 bedroom house one block form the ocean making it a fantastic place to stay.

Below are some photos that I took and some others of the great things you can experience should you decide upon a family friendly vacation to The Outer Banks in North Carolina.

I used a savings plan through my credit union and saved for this trip for a year to make it an awesome experience. All inclusive is the way to go when it comes to Disney.

East Coast

When traveling anywhere, it is important to be prepared. The question is are you traveling along the east coast going south or north. Of course, it doesn't really matter what you use to pack your items in although its always nice to have great luggage. It's what you decide to bring. If traveling in the north east, make sure to pack to be prepared for cool or sometimes very cold weather.

If traveling in the southeast, it tends to get very, very warm during several months of the year in certain areas so packing for warm temperatures is a must.

What's nice about planning a trip along the East Coast is that there are several choices about what kind of trip you want to enjoy. It could be anything from a ski trip,in the extreme northeast to a fantastic beach trip in the extreme southeast.

Whatever your pleasure, get prepared, and enjoy your trip alonge the east coast.

Other great places for weekend getaways on the east coast or for vacation getaways may include Williamsburg, Virginia, Niagara Falls, New York or of course Orlando, Florida.

Several trips to Williamsburg, Virginia are among my favorite memories of family friendly vacations. A historical, colonial place that is not quite as commercialized as some areas makes for a very relaxing stay. See my hub on Williamsburg.

So When you think about packing your bags this Spring when you're so sick of Winter, consider one of these great family friendly east coast vacation destinations for a trip you won't forget.

How to Travel Along The East Coast

People can see the most if they travel along the east coast by car however there are other ways.

Some prefer to get to their particular destination by plane and stay in one location for their entire getaway. Others may travel by bus, motor home or train. There are east coast trains which give travelers the opportunity to get up and down the east coast with ease and for a fairly small fee. Amtrak is one such company that provides eat coast train travel.

Great list of vacation places along the east coast. Pittsburgh and Myrtle in Myrtle Beach are misspelled by missing a letter. Since I'm a fellow Ohioian, thanks for listing Cleveland, too. Voted up!
