Sea Pines Forest Preserve

Sea Pines Forest Preserve is open daily and admission is $5 per person. Dogs are allowed in this preserve as long as the dog is on a six foot or shorter leash. This preserve has a 4,000-year old Indian Shell Ring, a rice field, wildflowers, a vanishing swamp, and gorgeous lakefront views.

Calibogue Cruises

Calibogue Cruises take people and dogs to Daufuskie Island. Daufuskie Island allows people to take self-guided golf cart tours of the island. While there you may visit galleries and historic sites with your dog.

Dog Beaches

Alder Lane Beach

Alder Lane Beach is a quiet beach open from 10 am to 5 pm with metered parking. This beach allows dogs on the beach who are on a six foot leash or shorter during the official beach season, April 1st through September 30th before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m, or anytime in the off season. This beach is located off of South Forest Beach drive, right next to the Marriott Grande Ocean Resort. This beach offers Beach Matting, Restrooms, Outdoor Showers, 22 Metered Parking Spaces, and Seasonal Lifeguards.

Burkes Beach

Burkes Beach is a very nice dog friendly beach. Dogs are allowed on the beach before 10am and after 5pm Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends. The Chaplain Community Park is with in walking distance of this beach and there is free parking available there. For those who would prefer not to walk metered parking is available at the beach access point.

Best Friends Dog Park/Chaplin Park

There is only one dog park in Hilton Head and that is the Best Friends Dog Park/Chaplin Park. This parking is with in walking distance of Burkes Beach. This park is open from sunrise until sunset everyday and admission is free. This park has tree covered benches, two water fountains, beach access, outdoor showers, restrooms, walking trails, and multiple sports areas.

What you need to know if you bring your dog

  • Pets are not allowed on the beaches from 10am ro 5pm from Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day.
  • Pets must be on a leash (6 feet or shorter) or under voice control at all other times while on a beach.
  • Makes sure to find a vet near where you are staying in-case your pet is injured or bitten. Make sure to bring a copy of your pets records with you on vacation as well.
  • Hilton Head Island has warm temperatures and this means there are many different critters than what you may be used to. You have to watch out for poisonous snakes like copper heads. If your pet is bitten rush him or her to a vet immediately.
