Valentine's Day Holidays in Croatia
Croatia may be a popular summer destination, but why not escape the crowds and experience the many natural, historic and cultural sights in this beautiful country in the winter months. All year round, you can find romance on the Croatian islands, which lie like gemstones in the Adriatic off the Dalmatian coast.
Re-enact the romance of Odysseus and the nymph Calypso, who mythology tells us stayed on this island for seven years. Odysseus was unable to tear himself away and perhaps you will feel the same way when you see the peaceful nature trails, unspoiled coastline and secluded bays of this magical island nirvana. Hike the trails, kayak the bays, sail the cerulean seas and you are bound to find yourselves in a love-filled haze, under Mljet's magical spell.
Heavenly Hvar is perfect for romance, from the quaint, historical streets of Hvar town to the lavender filled hillsides, to the quiet fishing villages and hidden bays. You may be amongst an elite crowd – Hvar is a favourite with many of the rich and famous. Will you party all night in the chic whirl of Hvar town, or cosy up in a traditional cottage far from the hedonistic madness? The choice is entirely yours.
Beautiful Brac is bound to delight you this Valentine's day, with its culture and history in the main towns of Supetar, with its local shops, and breezy Bol, and many miles of country road to hike or bike. Be sure to see the quaint old fishing villages scattered along the coast, and for magnificent views, climb to the highest peak on the island, Vidova Gora. You will be left breathless, and not just by the uphill hike.
Slow, dreamy Silba is the place for you if you want splendid isolation. This sea-fringed serene haven is perfect for romantic strolls. Stop, slow down, relax, and take in the varied sights of this pretty island with its unspoiled beaches and lack of big hotels, this is a lovely place to get away from the modern world for a time and concentrate only on your love for one another.
Far out from Split, Vis is a rugged, mountainous and unspoiled island perfect for nature lovers – another excellent getaway with oodles of potential for romance. Hike the island's hills and admire the staggering views from the summits, explore the picturesque harbour town of Komisa, with its rich history and culture, stroll down beautiful beaches and sit overlooking the glorious seascape and let the local wine go to your head.
Beyond Vis, come and explore Bisevo's pine forests and wild, rocky headlands. Tour the coast and visit the famous Blue Cave, a water-filled chasm through which the sunlight penetrates turning it a vivid blue. The nearby seas are teeming with life all year round, so why not take to the waters to see them properly? The views down through the clear water are beyond compare. You will never want to leave.
