Valentine's Day Holidays in Greece

Updated on February 18, 2015

Simply Stunning

Source

While the temperatures might not be sky-rocketing at this time of year, the sun and sea are still pleasing in February, so why not whisk off your loved one this Valentine's Day to this country of mythic romance? Here are just a few suggestions of destinations to get you started:

Corfu

Eschew the built up coastline and head inland for a taste of the true Corfiot way of life. You and your loved one will easily find solitude among the mountains of the south of the island, where even the coastal beaches are said to be more genuine. Stay in a traditional cottage high up in the rugged landscape, and explore ancient villages and farms as you walk or drive together around this land that time forgot. Visit the picturesque chapel at Ponticonisi where all year round, weddings are held on this outcrop in the sparkling sea.

Santorini

Santorini is often counted amongst the most romantic destinations in Greece and is frequently listed as an idyllic wedding or honeymoon destination. Explore the winding maze-like alleyways of Chora and Pyrgos hand in hand before you head to Oia for a spot of smooching as you watch a stunning sunset go down over the water. You can easily lose yourself in the romance of this glorious island. You will be the envy of Eros, or Aphrodite, as you experience this lovers' heaven.

Symi

This titchy island is perfect for a chic couple's retreat. The picturesque port has 2,500 Neoclassical villas tumbling down the hillside to the beach, looking more like something from a lover's dream than a real little harbour. Head for Marathoundi Beach or Toli Bay, St Nicholas or St George's beaches, or visit the Panormitis Monastery for a touch of the spiritual life. Relax on this laid back island and feel your troubles drifting out to sea. Why can fail to dwell in love amidst so much glorious beauty?

Kythira

Kythira is the best location for those who are looking for real get-away-from-it-all natural beauty. Get lost together in the narrow, white-washed avenues and alleyways of the Chora, and soak in the views of the amazing Aegean from the balcony of the historic and fascinating Venetian Castle. Yet more staggering sunsets will be yours to enjoy, without the crowds. Your own practically private paradise as you walk around and hike in the wilds of this perfect island.

Milos

If you are a beach lover, then head to the mythically magical island of Milos. There are a staggering 75 beaches here, so you will be spoiled for choice, and it will be so, so easy to find a secluded corner to cuddle up in. Sarakiniko is one of the favourite beaches, and one of the most impressive, though there are so many wonderful views that it may be difficult to know where to settle. In February, mild but not warm weather will be the order of the day, so wrap up warm, and consider walking some of the beautiful coastline to keep warm.

Great job Lee. Of the islands you listed here we've only been to Santorini although we've also visited Mykonos, Crete and Rhodes. Would love to go back some day and see more of the islands. They all look beautiful.
