Valentine's Holidays in Spain

Updated on March 12, 2015

Beautiful Spain

If you are looking for somewhere romantic to go this February 14th, why not whisk your Valentine off to Spain to experience this passionate and vivacious country without the crowds. Whether you are looking for amazing landscapes, historical and cultural treasures or a gourmand experience to die for, Spain can deliver – in abundance! Here are a few suggestions for slightly lesser known romantic locations in this sunny, scintillating country:

Cazorla National Park

This is Spain's best kept secret. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty of pristine lakes, forests and canyons – the largest National Park in Spain and the second largest in the whole of Europe – so it a mystery why it is so little known and visited by people who live outside the country. Hike in to the wilderness, and enjoy nature, just you and your Valentine. Gaze at the wonderful waterfalls and scale the peaks together, finding common goals together as you stride the countryside will leave you feeling closer to each other than ever.

Springs of Galicia

Why not tour the many hot springs dotted around the hills, valleys and villages of this scenic region. Some of the springs are private, but many have been turned into public spas, so why not stave off the cold with a dip in the lovely warm waters, having a meal and maybe a leisurely drink before heading off again to find another gem of a village, with luxurious spa and heavenly treats to sooth and relax you. The minerals are said to be excellent for the health – a cure for whatever ails you.

Toledo

This elegant city, poised above olive groves and prairies, is known for its well preserved mediaeval architecture. Take a romantic stroll through this magical hilltop heaven and be sure to make your way arm in arm through the historic quarter up to the ancient castle. The views from the castle are picturesque beyond belief. Linger to watch the sun go down over Toledo and you will feel like someone has cast a magic spell over the place – a spell that you are bound to be caught up in too.

Granada

This Andalusian city, with its Alhambra castle built by the moors during the 1300s, is filled with charming Moorish architecture. Strolling through its picturesque streets is a pure romantic experience guaranteed to enliven the soul. Find its hidden corners for a romantic rendezvous, and gaze out at spectacular sunsets from the well-preserved parapets, and enjoy the play of the light on the mountains.

La Rioja

If you and your Valentine are wine lovers then this could be the perfect romantic getaway location for you. This is the place for wine tasting amid some lovely scenery. There are over 500 wineries in this northern region of the country and when you have had your fill of fine wine and excellent food, you can burn off a few calories walking, cycling or horse riding through the vales. Of an evening, why not take a hot air balloon ride for romance in the skies?
