Chiang Mai is a unique city where present and past merge to create the perfect harmonic balance. This is not a city where you grab a taxi, there is far too much you would miss this way! No, Chiang Mai is a place where you rent a bicycle and explore every inch that it has to offer.

Things to do in Chiang Mai


There are many rivers that wind their way through the city and the highlands are watershed. You are not likely to soon forget the adrenaline-pumping experience of rafting these waters. They range from a level one for beginners up to a level four for the more advanced enthusiast and qualified guides are always available.

Want to enjoy the waters of Chiang Mai without the adventure? Ping River is a beautiful and tranquil body that you can casually glide through on a bamboo float!


Chiang Mai is not a city for spectators! Tours are common here and many villages are more than happy to open up their homes to you for a small donation. Hill-tribes are poor and constantly struggling yet kind and generous so these are safe places to stay. November through March is the best time to go trekking in Chiang Mai because the greenery is breathtaking.

Not able to walk that far but still want to enjoy the forests? Elephant tours are available as well.

Cultural Places

Sine there is an evident battle of past day and the present going on in Chiang Mai, you better believe there is a great amount of interesting culture here. The National Museum provides intriguing artifacts or you can head over to the Tribal Museum for colorful stories about the area's beautiful people. A trip to Chiang Mai would not be complete without a trip to the National Wonders and World Insects Museum too!

Zoo and Safari

More than 400 animal species are thoughtfully spread out over 200 acres at the Chiang Mai Zoo. You will also find a walk through aquarium and aviary as well as two young pandas named Lin Hui and Chuang Chuang. There is also a Night Safari in Chiang Mai which is a newer park that simulates how being in the wilderness at night would be which is quite exciting.

Chiang Mai in Thailand is the perfect vacation destination, offering waterfalls, mountains and spectacular greenery while keeping you busy with plenty of adventure, culture, nightlife, cuisine and of course, shopping!
