What You Should Know When Shopping for Luggage

Updated on June 16, 2012

When you go shopping for luggageit is best to look for the best quality luggage that is affordable. The type of luggage you choose depends on the type you need, the style you want, what you can afford and what you need it for.

Before you leave for your trip you should have in mind the type of luggage you need. You just wouldn’t want to worry about that at the last minute.

This guide will help you find the right luggage for your trip.

Sets of Bags

When shopping for luggage, think about how much traveling you do. If you travel a lot of buying a set of bags will be the most affordable option.

Even if you don’t do a ton of traveling buying a set of bags is the best choice because if you decide to take a weekend trip you can take the smaller bag or if you decide to go on a month long get away you can use the larger bags. With sets of luggage you will always be set no matter the situation.

Luggage sets includes bags of varying sizes. The smaller bags are meant to be carry ons for quick traveling and the larger bags are meant to be checked. Sets of bags are also great for people who travel for various times periods.

Business Travel

If you travel for business and you need to carry a laptop or documents, a business case is the best choice.

Brief cases are great for those one night trips where you only need to carry you laptop, documents and a change of clothes.

When shopping for luggage that is specific for business travel, you need to take into consideration the amount of time you will be gone and the amount of material you need to take.

If you are going to be gone for a few days you should consider getting a large brief case because it contains special compartments for you documents, laptop and personal items.

Don’t forget about backpacks. When shopping for luggage you may want to consider them.

They come in many sizes and shapes and they can even be found with wheels.

Backpacks are perfect for a quick getaway for causal travelers and students.

They are easy to just grab, throw on your back and go.

Back packs are not for everyone but they are a great alternative to the typical, traditional luggage.

They can also make great carry ons.

Weather Proof

You should also think about whether or not you will need weatherproof luggage.

Your bags may come into contact with rain or snow and you will want to make sure your belonging stay safe and protected.

You should also consider whether or not you will a lock for your luggage. If you do decide to get a lock on your bags make sure you have the keys ready when ever needed.

During security checks you’ll never know when they may need to open your bags and you don’t want them damaged.

Some of the best luggages come with a warranty. If something goes wrong with your bags you will be able to replace them. When shopping for luggage you may want to consider bags that come with warranties.

Make sure that your bags fit your immediate needs and your needs in the future. You don’t want to be replacing bags very often. That would be way too expensive. Depending on your situation you may have to get many different types of bags to fit your needs.

Choosing the Color

Most people often overlook the color of the luggage. When shopping for luggage, the color of the bags are very important.

Most luggage that people purchase is black. If you decide to get black or even a dark blue it will be difficult to spot you bags.

When you purchase your luggage look for bold colors; you’ll be able to spot your bags quickly and get out of the airport or where ever you are as soon as possible.

Also by having different colors you can prevent your bags from being stolen. Most thieves steal bags that look similar and unnoticeable.

They will switch out their empty black bag for a full black bag.

Important Clothes

If you know you will be traveling with clothing that you can’t afford to just throw in a backpack or luggage, you may want to consider purchasing carrier or garment bags when shopping for luggage.

These types of bags come in many different sizes and some even come with wheels.

They are great for those who have to travel with suits, dresses or costumes.

Depending on the way you travel, and the length of your traveling, the type of luggage you will need will depend on your situation.

Make sure you plan ahead when you get ready to travel. It will make life a lot easier.

As a frequent traveler, I appreciate having the right bags. Backpacks or suitcases with wheels are my main choices, but ... they MUST be waterproof! (in my life anyhow). There is nothing worse that finding all your stuff is soaked!! The other good tip was that of color ... it really does help you to spot that bag amongst the hundreds of gray and black ones :-)
