1st Thursday

1st Thursday is an event that happens every month on the first Thursday in the evening. It is a celebration of art and culture in downtown Santa Barbara where participating galleries, shops and other art-related venues offer free access to their art exhibits and performances. The even also showcases live music, lectures and wine tastings. Most of the places involved are located on State St., just follow the music.

Santa Barbara Zoo

The Santa Barbara Zoo has been ranked numerous times as one of the nation's best small zoos. The Santa Barbara Zoo is located on 30 acres near the ocean in Santa Barbara, California and was formerly called the Child's Estate Zoo. The Santa Barbara Zoo has 160 species of animals from mammals to reptiles to birds and to insects; more than 500 of these animals are in open naturalistic habitats. The zoo charges adults 13-64 $15, children 2-12 $10, seniors 65 and older $12, and children younger than 2 are free. The zoo charges also $6 for parking.

Santa Barbara Botanic Garden

The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is 78 acres with over 1,000 species of rare and indigenous plants. The Garden Shop a part of the Botanic Garden sells a variety of plant along with unique items fashioned from a variety of dried plant materials created by local artisans, jewelers and the Garden Guild Crafters. If you are interested in the more educational aspects the Botanic Garden offers educational classes and tours. Regular admission is $10.00 for adults, $8.00 for seniors (60 + years), $8.00 for children 13 – 17, college students, and active military with ID, and $6.00 for children 2 – 12 years.

The Presidio District

The Presidio District is basically the street blocks around the Presidio State Park, off of Santa Barbara Street. The Presidio District is a locals' favorite. This shopping area has a wide selection of shops that specialize in everything from gourmet cheeses and breads to handmade jewelry. If you are looking for unique gifts this is the place to go.
