Stop in at Leavenworth if traveling the Cascade Loop

On your next family vacation do you want to visit a town that has a little bit of everything for everyone in the family? Well, look no further, if you are traveling in Washington state, then Leavenworth is the place for you. Take the beautiful drive on the Cascade Loop which takes you to this little town and so many others, all the while being captivated by the beautiful Cascade mountains which will embrace you.

Located in a valley surrounded by the Cascade Mountains is this little quaint and charming Bavarian Village called Leavenworth. The Wenatchee and Icicle Rivers run along the side of this beautiful little town. In the fall all the trees that line the river are in full rustic red, yellow and orange colors, simply gorgeous. But, no matter what time of year you decide to visit, you will be mesmerized by its old world character and charm and friendly faces everywhere you go.

The town is in the Bavarian Style

The town’s architecture and town theme are a replica of the Bavarian style. Bavaria was very famous for its beauty and musical heritage from places like Germany, Austria with composers like Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and so many others. This adorable town is known for its lively festivals which include, folk dancing, jazz musicians and bluegrass and their own live band.

When visiting Leavenworth you will certainly want to put all those gadgets away, and you will want to partake in the festivities, where you could actually become a part of the show.

Christmas shops and tree lighting festival!

There is so much to see and do in this quaint and fun town of Leavenworth. Besides fine wine tasting the shopping is a must do. Leavenworth even has it’s own Christmas shop called Kris Kringle, a shop that features every type of gift and ornament imaginable. It’s a great place to pick up that special and unique item that you will not find anywhere else. They also feature a cute Gingerbread Factory with so many sweets to choose from - yum! Leavenworth also features numerous art galleries with beautiful art and photography from local artisians.

The other event you will have to add on your agenda is the Christmas Lighting Festival. We attended this a few years ago and it is spectacular! That event is also held 3 weekends in December before the Christmas holiday. Besides being totally amazed when they light all the trees in the town square, you can also take a romantic carriage ride thru the beautiful streets and experience Christmas Carolers in their old fashioned attire singing along the main street of town. If that doesn’t get you in the Christmas spirit nothing will.

If you enjoy beer, the Octoberfest comes highly recommended. This is celebrated 3 weekends in October and features live music which includes award winning bands from Germany. There are also many activities for children, dancing, German beer and lots of good old fashioned food and fun. While at Octoberfest be sure to enjoy a “free” breakfast with Lions Club at the Lions Club Park.

Fun at the RV park

My husband and I had the pleasure of stopping by Leavenworth on our last trip around the Cascade Loop. It was in the fall so the park was not very busy, we stayed at the Icicle River RV Resort. It was very private except for a visitor, we had on the next day we were there. It was the park horse, he was so friendly and just grazed in the grass around the RV. We took some pictures and my husband even fed him a few carrots which later we realized was probably a mistake, because he wouldn’t leave. It was such a peaceful time there and the people were so friendly and helpful at every turn.

I hope you do visit this adorable town of Leavenworth, on your travels to this area. There are so many other places to visit on the cascade loop such as Wenatchee, Winthrop and Chelan, it’s a beautiful drive especially during the fall with all the autumn bold colors. So until next time – happy travels.

Yes! I would definitely visit Leavenworth. I was born in Washington, lived in Fife, Cle Elum, Puyallup, Sumner, Tacoma and Mount Vernon - and never once got the chance to visit the lovely town of Leavenworth. It is something I must do in this life - return to Washington and do all the things I never could do in the past.

Thank you so much, Mary, for the beautiful and interesting hub. Your photos are spectacular.

My mother, niece and I spent one day in that charming town many years ago and I see it is the top link under your hub at the moment. I will add a link from your hub to mine. Also if the share button is working, will do that as well and also pin to my Washington board.
