Why I like Langkawi very much

Updated on January 31, 2015

Chinese proverb

My friend once told me there is a Chinese proverb says that 'walking ten thousand miles of the world is better than reading ten thousand scrolls'.Remembering that I picked my clothes,my children shoes and few things that came across my mind, put inside bags and started browsing for the best price for a trip to Langkawi somewhere in April last year 2012.Why Langkawi?why, not other affordable places in Malaysia, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Pulau Perhentian, Gunung Ledang etc.?

The reason I took a flight to Langkawi is because I have been here once but the memories keep refreshing my mind to pay a visit once again.Fortunately my, family didn't reject my planned .It was about 5 o'clock pm we landed on Langkawi island. The surroundings seemed very new to me even I have been here before. The developed AirAsia airport first captured my eyes, bigger departures, more seats, more rent a car booth, everything looks so convenience for peoples to start with.

My plan worked accordingly as planned, there was a Myvi waited for us exactly in front of departure exit. After thanking him for the nice service that the rent a car has provided, I drove straight to hotel.Along the short ride we stopped at gas station, grabbed some snacks to bite before dinner.

At 7 o'clock pm, we reached Twin Peaks Hotel and Resort the place that I booked earlier for 4 days 3 night journey in Langkawi island.

Twin Peaks Hotel and Resort

There are about 150 hotels in Langkawi .Some of them are inside Kuah town and the rest are very near to the beach.Twin Peaks Hotel and Resort actually is about 1 kilometers away from Kuah town. There are about 20 traditional wooden Malaysia house equipped with bathroom,h ot water, air condition and one swimming pool open from 7 to 10 at night for their customers convenience. The affordable price for 4 family members to stay is about Ringgit Malaysia 100 per night including breakfast.Apart from that Twin Peaks also provides a 24 hours room maintenance upon call plus free wi-fi. Naturally quiet and peaceful area is also part of the service we may have at Twin Peaks Hotel and Resort.

The Oriental Village

We started our journey in Langkawi at 7 o 'clock the next day from Langkawi Cable car (known also as The Oriental Village). We chose Langkawi cable car first to go is because from Kuah town it will take about 1 1/2 hours to reach Langkawi cable car and along Jalan Ayer Hangat and Jalan Teluk Yu highway we will pass by Pantai Chenang,Makam Mahsuri and Ayer Hangat Langkawi.

The reason why I like Langkawi very much most probably because of the road. The big highway with less cars are the convenience infrastructure you may find in Langkawi compared to busy place like Kuala Lumpur,Seremban,Penang etc.The journey to reach any destination in Langkawi with less hours is to drive bigger cc cars such as Triton,Prius, and Mercedes.

Ayer Hangat Langkawi

After spending about three hours in The Oriental Village,we continue the day one journey to Ayer hangat Langkawi.Ayer hangat Langkawi is a small relaxing place to view and feel the natural hot water from many developed well here,We are allowed to immerse our legs and hands inside the well but strictly not allowed to bathe..The water heat is about 65 degree Celsius similar to boiling soft eggs with soft yolk in a middle.I had a chance to soak my legs ,wash my face ,in a wish towards ailment cures that we may or may not see

We left one hour after and drove away heading towards Makam Mahsuri 1 kilometers away from Ayer Hangat.

The Legend of Mahsuri

According to many Legend history , Mahsuri was just an ordinary village girl who lived in Pulau Langkawi. She was born in Kampung Ulu Melaka somewhere on 18th century. The spell of Mahsuri believe as true among villagers in Langkawi Island and was also recorded in Malaysia book of history. There is much historical evidence which had been collected by Malaysia Government and displayed at Makam Mahsuri Langkawi near Jalan Ayer Hangat. Langkawi.

The area is not as big as The Oriental Village, but the buried history had attracted many visitors to come over to visit the historical place to know closer about Mahsuri and her 7-generation spell. Mahsuri well, Mahsuri house, Mahsuri grave also can be seen inside Makam Mahsuri.

Day one last destination

We end the day one journey by visiting the chocolate shops around Pekan Kuah.Idaman Suri and Haji Ismail Group are the famous 2 chocolate shops in Pekan Kuah .That is not the only specialty visitors can find in Pekan Kuah, there are a lot of small markets here which selling varieties of Malaysian food, shirts, shoes, souvenirs and handmade craft. The suggest food to try in Langkawi is Laksa Langkawi.

After having Laksa at about 7 p.m as our final dish for the day we drove back to Twin Peaks Resort and Hotel planning for the 2nd and third destination of our 4 days 3 night visit to Langkawi Island.

For me, my day every day ends with swimming in the pool until it was officially closed at 9 o'clock.

Memories and souvenirs

Galleria Perdana

Galleria Perdana Langkawi also known as Jabatan Muzium Malaysia is a museum with full historical collections, artifacts and natural treasure of Malaysia. This has become our first destination of day 2 in Langkawi. At about 10 o'clock morning we reached the entrance at the Galleria which has no charge at all for visitors to get in.

The history photos captured my eyes to read till the end what has written inside it.During the 2 hours visit to the gallery has made me realized that my country has gone through hard times to be what they are now especially the Prime Ministers. There are a lot of memories lies down peacefully in each area of Galleria Perdana waiting for Malaysian and outside visitors. As for me I am proud to be this country citizen.

Taman Geopark Langkawi

I and my family spend the last hours in day 2 at Taman Geopark Langkawi. For 200 Ringgit Malaysia per ride by boat we will be taken to visit the whole geopark of langkawi. where we can see the 5 islands beside Langkawi. The landscape of this Geopark which is full of flora and fauna has made this Geopark a must visit destination in Langkawi.

The eagles can be seen flying to each center of the Geopark when hearing the boat sounds We finished the visit to Geopark with some t-shirt,hat and handmade craft souvenirs to bring back home.

Last Day in Langkawi

This would end my writing but in fact there are a lot of Langkawi specials has not been told to the public. However part of the story of Langkawi lies down as memories upon my 2nd visit to Langkawi Island.

The last destination of me was the Langkawi underwaterworld and Gamat Nusantara which is a small factory of producing traditional medicine from Gamat extract which is known also as sea cucumber.

I certainly learned something from your hub. I'm ashamed to say that I know very little about your country. I have a friend in our computer department who is from Malaysia. I'll have to ask her to tell me more. Your photos are beautiful and the video was nice. I didn't know there were penguins there. Voted you up++

Thanks for your visit MizBejabbers,I also know very little about some countries in Europe or elsewhere ,we are actually a bit lucky to meet on HP,Hp has brought us to many countries even without visiting it personally, but a little story about tradition, cultures plus some photos are quite useful to at least having some knowledge about the country itself.Me sometime will drop by any travelling hub ,just to know a little bit of Hubbers place of origin. Thanks for dropping by ,It was a very nice comment from Arkansas!
