Why Morocco is so Popular? and Why you Should Visit Morocco?

Where is Morocco?

First, I'm quite sure that many would ask this question, as it has always been the case whenever I have to tell somebody where I am from. Well, isn't Morocco that kind of leather made of goatskin or is that a place I have yet to know about? My answer to those who always ask me that is '' Morocco is UNDER spain. '' Once I say this, that look of awkwardness dissipates and Morocco gets geographically located, at least to my interlocuter's perception, thinking Morocco is in Europe. Then I had to answer so many follow-up questions. But I always wonder why some people fail to know Morocco? One always expects that his country, hometown is the best of all, is the centre of the universe, and how come the centre of the universe is not yet known. For this, and since HP has a very growing community, I decided to make Morocco geographically and culturally known to many people all over the world.

So where is Morocco?

Yes, it is under spain, but it is not in Europe, being divided by the Pillars of Hercules. The latter were called so in times of antiquity taking their name after the Herculean myth where Hercules has to perform the Twelve Labours. To be exact, Morocco is located in North Africa and bordered from the east by Algeria. It occupies a vast area of 446,550 km². To the west, Morocco borders the vast Atlantic Ocean.

What's Morocco's History and Who are its People?

The first people to popluate Morocco were the Berbers and that was back in antiquity, probably 5000 years ago. So, the first Moroccan free independent state was called Mauritania and was ruled by Bocchus I. Soon, after the fall of the Roman empire, because the Romans were then occupying Morocco, the Arabs, under the of the rule Umayyad dynasty, conquered the land. And for the first time Arabs and Berbers were combined together to shape modern Morocco, linguistically and demographically. But this does not mean that the only people who inhabit the land are either Berbers or Arabs. There are other people like the Jews, Africans, or people from South Sahara. There were many successive dynasties that ruled Morocco, and that is why Morocco is historically a rich country, rich with its monuments that date back to antiquity!

So Why Should Morocco Be Your Next Destination?

Well, for many reasons Morocco should be your next summer destination. If you are planning to go somewhere else, just don't rush ! Read all of this hub and then decide. Being, as I have already mentioned somewhere historically a rich country, Morocco boasts of so many monuments that attract many tourists all over the world. One of these sites is surely Volubilis which dates back to the Roman reign. You can see all of Morocco's historical sites here. Not only its historical sites that make Morocco a tourist-bound country, its geographical location plays a great role in making Morocco a perfect haven for all travelers, especially those who are enamored with nature, the simplicity of life and exoticism.

Morocco is really rich, yes, rich in many aspects. The country borders two major seas, the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean sea. It has a very long coastline, stretching from Tanjier up to the Western Sahara, with many blue and clean beaches that scatter all over its major cities. But what makes its beaches so special is its hot weather in summer days; we all know that beaches without a good hot sun is frankly useless. So try Morocco for this and you will never regret it! When one hears of hot weather, one immediately thinks of the desert! No, Morocco does actually have a desert but only a part of it which is a desert and that's also so attractive for many visitors. Not all of the country is hot. Morocco boasts of three series of mountains called the Atlas Mountains. They take their name also from a Greek myth, that of the Titan, Atlas. So, if you don't like hot weather, you can still have a chalet in some mountain resort. You are not going to feel any kind of boredom here, since Morocco is a country of diversity and contrast. If you like exoticism and the desert, Essouira will be your perfect destination. I can't go through all the details, because neither time nor space will suffice me!

I can't tell you what you can do in Morocco. You can do whatever you want. Just think of what you want and you'll find it here. That's why I won't suggest anything. You can come and decide for yourself what are the activities you enjoy doing more. Morocco is a country of diversity. When we look closer at its texture, we find that it's composed of an amalgam of diverse components. This includes its cultures, peoples, languages, musics and dishes!

Morocco's Cuisine!

Being, culturally, demographically, as I have mentioned, Moroccan cuisine is so reach. It has a worldwide dimension that is felt through its different dishes. So Moroccan gastronomy is so powerful due to its different dishes that are served either daily or on certain ocassions. Daily dishes are Tajine or Couscouss. Other dishes are served on certain occasions, for example Chicken Bastilla is served mainly in weddings. There are dishes which are peculiar only to some certain areas and cities, like Tanjia in Marrakech. I'd, if I got any requests from our commentators, make some recipe hubs. Once you try all of these dishes, you'll be addicted to Morocco and is surely going to be your Mekka!

Morocco's Music and Folklore

Morocco's music is really diverse. From north to south, and east to west, you'll hear different rythmes, tunes, and beats. You'll doubt that these folklores are indigenously from the same country. But if you get to know that its people are not from one race, you'll surely understand why. At least, one type of folklore is internationally recognized and that's Gnawa music, which is becoming a world beat music, that's combined with modern instruments, and many international artists have been to Essouira and participated in its musical tours and concerts.

Hollywood in Morocco

Many international movies were shot in Morocco. There is even the Moroccan film studio of Ouarzazate, which is admittedly Morocco's Hollywood. This studio is being chosen for its exotic desert landscape which makes it very likely to be featured in many Hollywoodian movies. Not far from Ouarzazate, there is a castle like city, which is made of a cluster of buildings. The Ksar, or castle is called Ait Benhaddou. This Ksar has been nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many famous movies where shot in this Ksar, including The Mummy (1999), Gladiator (2000), Jesus of Nazzareth (1977), Kingdom of Heaven ( 2005), and the list is still long!

Summer In Morocco

Morocco is a country that you may visit in all seasons. But for each season some regions get more agreeable. But it's very interesting to visit such regions in a different climate other than what is famous for, and in this way you may discover other aspects of such villages. In general Morocco's climate is affected by the wind. If the wind blows from the oceans it brings with it a mild and fresh climate, the opposite happens when it blows from the desert. The sun is hot and the hair is dry, but we can't apply this to all of Morocco. There are different climates even in summer or winter.

If I do than I will have a traveling savings account:) I want to see Ireland, Africa, now Morocco and I want to do it when I don't have to be back for the kids. The world is an amazing place and I couldn't imagine not doing it. I couldn't live and breathe in one town my whole life. I have moved every two years since I was born.

LOL That first paragraph was just matching me right now...I was puzzled trying to visually hold a world map we see in class, in my busy brain and figure out where my professor had been pointing to when he located it for us. It is one place I do want to travel too one day. The photo that is your main one here is gorgeous. I have only been to Japan, Mexico, Scotland, London, and Germany. I would want to see Morroco from the natives eyes though, and avoid all the tourist points. I think this is a well written and informative hub. I voted it up.
