World Monuments - Eiffel Tower & Interesting Facts
The Eiffel Tower is in Paris – designed by Engineer Gustave Eiffel. It received much criticism from the public and the arts community of Paris, but I’m sure they are all quiet now because it is still standing tall, since being built in 1887/89. Even when I visited and climbed on it in the 90s, it didn’t shake.
I thought the Eiffel Tower was just for viewing and taking photos like tourists do to Big Ben (clock) when the visit London. When I visited in the mid 90s, I found out their were 3 floors (see photo below) that people could access with elevators. My friend and I only went to the first floor so we took the stairs. *P/s note it has wheel chair access.
The Eiffel Tower was constructed for the World's Fair to show that iron is infact lighter but stronger than stone. Obviously it is made from Iron and stands 324 meters tall. It gets painted every 7 years.
During periods of gusty winds, the tower does sway, so mind your head if you are visiting then. It’s bad enough having a coconut fall on your head by the beach on holiday, not to talk of the Eiffel.
Enjoy your visit.
