Zut Island and Kornati
Accesible only by boat
Island Zut or Žut in Croatian is a part of beautiful Kornati archipelago. There are 140 islands in the sea area, but Zut is one of my favourite places which I love to visit at least once every year. You can reach the island only by boat. Taxi boats and short cruises are organized from different places on mainland. I would recommend taking one in Sukosan, Biograd or Zadar.
The calmness, beautiful nature and kind people always make me and my family wanting to stay for a bit longer.
National Park Kornati
Part of the Kornati Islands, roughly two-thirds of land and waterways, is today a national park. From the Law on the introduction of the highest degree of protection, Zut and Sita are left out with their islands, although they geomorphologically, geographically and culturally belong to the Kornati islands. Good news for visitors is that you don't have to buy an additional NP ticket to go to Zut.
Like you are off the map
It's a pure joy to jump into a crystal clear water. Fresh air, sounds of crickets and birds will invite you into a new day. No matter how stressful your life is, you can rest here with the help of spectacular nature. You feel like you've been thrown into a parallel universe.
Peace, beauty, nature. Kornati.
Some Croatian Islands were chosen to be part of film scenery or the set for the entire movie. In 2017 Mamma Mia 2 was being filmed on island Vis near Komiža bay.
Mediterranean nature, culture, food and weather make this area unique and pleasant. Many Croatian coastline cities are cultural centres with long history. You have probably heard or read about Dubrovnik, Split or Pula.
My family and I like to go sailing in the summer. You can go sailing earlier in May but it's different because the sea has about 18 or 19 degrees Celsius. In summer it always goes above 22 or 23 degrees and that makes a big difference. Renting a sailboat in May is cheaper and so are marina fees. Islands are greener, everything is blossoming, mornings are fresh and wind is colder.
Morning on Žut.
The island is mostly rocky, it grows lush in spring when everything starts blooming. Small shrubs, spices like rosemary and sage, many sorts of teas. You will find mulberry trees, olive trees, pine trees and small cactuses. In the summer when there is less rain and more heat, it is good to go uphill early in the morning or late in the afternoon if the stones are not overheated from the hot day.
Flowers and rocks
Let's go up!
You don't have to be a sporty person to get to the top. You might need to be a little stubborn though. Take a bottle of water, don't ever climb a hill without water! Take good shoes, sneakers will do. Take binocular and a camera and a good company. Start behind the Marina toilet hut. There are many paths and as long as they go up, you'll not get lost.
You will find rocks up there and rocky thrones where you can sit and watch sunset in the evening. There is nothing to do up there and you'll be fascinated how good it feels to have nothing to do.
You can just gaze the surroundings or build your stone sculpture like many others did before you came. You can build your own throne which will resist the strong forces of wind and rain and storm and will wait for you to come back again some day.
Top of one world
Aci Marina Žut
You will find a great restaurant here and they will serve you delicious mediterranean food. You can buy locally produced olive oil from the people - ask in the Information office. Sometimes they have honey too. I probably don't have to say all is eco and bio?
