Why Travel Elsewhere? I love Vegas!

Las Vegas is a city so full great activities it would take years to see everything. Over the course of my life as a resident of this exciting city, I have stayed and played here. Every now and then I plan a stay-cation and spend a day or so blending in like one of the tourists. It is important to me to know about the hot spots as I work in the tourism industry. I cannot comfortably recommend an establishment unless I know what it is like to experience it.

You may find me next to that cute couple from Sweden taking pictures of the Eiffel Tower on The Strip or craning my neck to watch The Fremont Street Experience show downtown. I love spending some much needed time out to enjoy my home town! We have high culture to budget activities here in Vegas.

There truly is something for everyone here. Whatever you choose to do will be amazing!

I have to admit that even after living in Las Vegas as long as I have, I am still a tourist at heart. Some of my favorite activities for stay-cations in Las Vegas would be great additions to your travel itinerary if you ever drop by our fascinating city. We have shows, restaurants, sights, and experiences like no other city in the world so it is not difficult to find something to do.

On my stay-cation agenda will be a hotel room, reservations for a restaurant, a show or sightseeing, and perhaps a visit to one of the night clubs.

"I'M GOING TO VEGAS!" I shout when I leave for one of these close to home getaways.

Then I giggle "OH, That's right -- we live here... [grin] ... Let's go to Vegas anyway!"

Are your overnight bags packed? Mine are. Let's see what we have planned for this weekend!

*Overnight stay at the Tropicana

*Dinner At The Eiffel Tower Restaurant

*Show At Aria

Pink accessories are some of my favorite things -- especially when they have hearts on them. This little rolling duffle bag is a handy piece of luggage. If I pack it heavy - no worries - it will roll and do the transporting work for me!

Overnight Bags - Carryon Bags

You really don't need much more than a carry on bag or overnight bag for weekend luggage. I pack a small sized duffle bag with some toiletries and a change of clothes for the stay and bring along a garment bag for my dinner dress. I usually drop the fancy shoes and gear I need to wear with my dressy outfit into the bottom of the garment bag so I have more room in my carry on case. This saves room for my sightseeing outfit which is generally a nice pair of slacks, a blouse, and some comfortable walking shoes.

I plan on changing clothes at least 4 times. The outfit I wear to check in the hotel can be my early afternoon style. I always bring a swimsuit in case there is a jacuzzi or pool available at the hotel. For dinner I will want a sexy dress or slacks outfit. After all that excitement I will want to slip into something more comfortable for late evening and sleeping.

My Staycation Checklist - Plan Accordingly

It is important to set plans and goals for creating a special get away. By creating a list ahead of time we will have not only an itinerary, but a check list to make sure we have all of the bases covered. This staycation was upscale mode so I will want to bring along more dressy attire.

  • I call for hotel reservations at least a month in advance. This is a great way to find good rates and set aside time needed for arrangements at home for sitters and other duties you need to take care of.
  • Book my show tickets. I will write down the confirmation number and slip that into my wallet. Having the confirmation number handy will enable me to get my tickets from the show room clerk quickly. If I happen to have my tickets and misplace them, no worries! The clerk will just need my I.D. and the credit card I purchased them with. They do not give away the seats! (This is a common concern and question from the clientele I work with.)
  • Arrange for a seating time at my restaurant of choice. Based on the hotel date, get my reservations in line for dinner. I will set the reservation around my show time. Allow at least 1.5 hours for the full dining experience.
  • Around three days before I am ready to depart, I pack my overnight bags. This helps me see everything I want to bring and gives me time to think about what else I should pack. Pack that same day and I am bound to leave without something I wanted like my pantyhose or his good shoes!

Tips On Arriving At The Hotel

Take Advantage Of Customer Services

When I stay in a hotel in Las Vegas, I take full advantage of the services offered so I can spend more time enjoying my time off. Check in time is generally around 4 p.m.

Now, parking can be a pain and I hate having to remember where I left my car. Using the valet services can save me the time and trouble of locating my vehicle and it is free. I tip the valet a dollar or two when they hand me my claim check then I am off to get my room key.

Another great service is the bell desk. A friendly staff member will usually ask if I need luggage assistance and I will let them stow my larger bag so I am unencumbered by it as I check in and find my room. I will receive another claim check with a number on it. I will call down to the bell desk and give them the number on the claim check. They will bring the luggage to me in a few minutes and I tip the attendant a couple of bucks. I love not having to drag all of my bags up the elevator and down the hall when I check in. Plus, it adds to the feeling of being a VIP!

Interact with these individuals and let them share their knowledge of the property and city. If there is a special event going on they will be sure to let you know about it. They are a wealth of information, so ask them what they like and what they recommend.

Time For Dinner

The Best Restaurants In Las Vegas

Now that we are all checked into the hotel and are ready to go hit the town, we should already have made reservations any one of the best restaurants in the city of Las Vegas. My personal favorite is the Eiffel Tower Restaurant at the Paris. One of the reasons I like it is because it overlooks the Fountains of Bellagio. The scenery is stunning here. The service? Spectacular! Image service protocols that out do that water show! Try this French style cuisine and I promise you will not be disappointed. A word of caution - it is pricey, so be prepared for a dinner check of at least $150.

What we do when we visit one of these fancy places is choose an entree and share the dinner. It is more than enough food for the two of us and it leaves room for a great desert. The chocolate souffle is divine here at Paris' Eiffel Tower Restaurant! Order it as soon as you order your drinks because it takes a full 45 minutes prep time.

The Paris Eiffel Tower - Souveneirs

Our Eiffel Tower here in Las Vegas is a one third replica of the one in Paris France. It seems anytime I have a chance I snap a picture of this amazing attraction.

Viva Elvis

Viva Elvis: the Album + 1 Bonus Track
Viva Elvis: the Album + 1 Bonus Track

This production was a very moving tribute to that King Of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. In the script the show danced and sang to Elvis's career timeline. I enjoyed this one so much I saw it 3 times!

Aria hosted the Cirque Du Soleil show, Viva Elvis until this past winter when it closed it curtains for the last time.

Cirque du Soleil presents some of the most fascinating shows. The term is French for circus of the sun and they truly do a magnificent job of a multi-ring circus!

The singer, Thalia, and other females were the only ones to sing in this show except for Elvis himself. The Elvis' moments were his best in film and audio recordings. Who better to do Elvis than Elvis himself?

The show has since left the stage at the Aria, but this excellent soundtrack will allow you to enjoy some of the special moments from this wonderful Las Vegas musical.

As The Evening Fades....

From here we will either turn in and enjoy some quiet time in the hotel or if we have enough energy - hit one of the popular dance clubs. It has been a long evening, however, so I think a little quiet time is in order, plus I brought some bubble bath for a relaxing dip in the tub.

Sorry, I am closing the door now and spending some precious moments with my sweetheart who is as busy as I am during the week. This is one of many stay-cation ideas I have, there will be more to follow. If you want more ideas, feel free to contact me! I have loads of ideas and can recommend some great places to eat at and stay.

Thanks for stopping in!

A very interesting look at the old Tropicana. Thanks for the in-depth tour and yes, Cirque Du Soleil does put on an excellent show. At the behest of a friend, I was one of many who worked security for the 84th Academy Awards and Cirque Du Soleil presented a fantastic show. Your lenses are always spot on. Thanks again.
