Travelling around Australia for the last fifty plus years, Jan T Baillie can tell you of some of her favourite places to visit.

Afternoon tea is a forgotten indulgence

Do you love to relax and be waited on in luxurious surroundings? Is tea served with a sense of old time elegance what you like?

Afternoon tea at Sheraton on the Park in Sydney is an occasion. We recently stayed at the hotel, and enjoyed the delights of the Gallery Tea Lounge, not once but twice during our stay.

Delicious treats and thoughtful service, let me tell you about it.

Comfort and luxury

and wonderful service

Recently we had to go to Sydney to participate in a legal conference in our lawyers' rooms, so we decided to go the day before so we were rested and fresh for the meeting.

We found a hotel very close the law firm's offices (one block away) and booked our stay at Sheraton the Park in Elizabeth Street.

After our two hour trip, we decided to have a coffee and went down to the foyer to see where we might do that.

The Gallery Tea Lounge caught our eye, so...

A charming waitress seated us

and proffered a menu

Sinking into the comfort of the tub chairs, we browsed the menu, while the lass brought cutlery and linen serviettes to us, along with water to sip.

The view across to Hyde Park was attractive, as was the interior of the lounge.

There were tea stands and individual menu items.

It was very hard to decide, but in the end Bob had a selection of freshly baked scones with jam and King Island (Tasmania) cream, while I chose scrumptious tiramisu.

The presentation was absolutely artistic, and the taste divine.

What the Sheraton says

about The Gallery Tea Lounge

Quote from the website:

"Experience 'high tea' in timeless surroundings at The Gallery Tea Lounge, located on Lobby level. Create your own contemporary or traditional high tea stand with your choice of Vittoria espresso coffees, fragrant Twinings fine leaf teas or rich Max Brenner drinking chocolate. There is also an afternoon tea buffet available on weekends."

Plates were whisked away

as soon as we finished with one

Swiftly and silently, the used plates disappeared, and more selections were offered to us.

We felt pampered and indulged.

I haven't had a Sheraton High Tea, but we just had High Tea at the Keswick Inn near Charlottesville. It was fun....but really expensive!

Great lens, I have enjoyed high tea in San Francisco and on Coronado Island near San Deigo, and love the idea and tradition. 5*
