When my vacation first starts, I'm just ready to RELAX and ENJOY.  If I'm taking a beach vacation, then the first thing to do is find a spot on the beach and enjoy a nice, cold beer and really start to unwind and get into what I like to call "Vacation Mode".  After a couple days, I'm usually feeling more energetic and ready to explore!  Then I might join a tour or rent a car to see the sights.  After a day of exploring, I'll be ready to relax on the beach again... :-)

I am like you.  I want time to relax after being on whatever mode of transportation I'm on.  Generally if I'm going to some place where there's a beach, there's a lot of flying time involved.  So I like to take time to relax, unwind and recharge before I start to explore.

I am so torn by this.  I so want to have a relaxing vacation where I just relax and do nothing, but when I get in a new place I just want to see and do everything.

I definitely like to relax and enjoy with a little exploration thrown in. I know people who come home from vacation more worn out than when they left because they have "fun" stuff planned every single day. That's not for me.

I think this depends on where you go. Certain vacation areas point you more towards one or the other. Most beach going vacations tend to do things to keep you on their resort and to simply lounge around. Others promote things like hiking, kayaking, white water rafting, etc.

My personal preference is to explore. I live in south Louisiana where there isn't much to explore besides swamp. I love to go north and visit areas with hills and hiking trails and streams.

thebeast02, I think you are right, It depends on where you go, but I also think it is a skill to master a balance when on vacation.  I have found that as long as I don't plan too many things each day I can maintain an equal amount of both, but it took years and lots of practice to get to this point.

Why not have a little bit of both. Not sure why this needs to be a choice between the two.

Most likely if it is my first visit to the place, I will choose to explore ....but seriously, even while exploring it is still possible to relax and definitely enjoy yourself! So both big_smile
