The mystery of the backlink? Help!
I have set up a web site to advertise my business and I have gone in search for backlinks, at one point I could see 1 but it disappered. My business is a holiday cottage in suffolk, England I have advertised it on quite a few site all in the same business of promoting cottages and yet still no backlinks. If anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong I would be grateful for some feed back.
You can find my site at www.weavers-cottages.co.uk

Hi Kevin, if you have paid for directory entries on sites promoting businesses like yours, you should receive a backlink. The link may be on the page on the site but if this page is not indexed by Google, the link will not show up as a backlink for you.
You could check whether this is the case by typing into google search site: then immediately the url of the page where your link appears on the site.
If google returns no results for that page, you could contact the siteowner to ask what he is doing for his money - since he should be promoting the page. If you only put the links on very recently, give it a little time before doing so.
You could submit the site page url where your link is to pingfm which should help it to get found by the search engines.
You could build some social bookmarks back to the pages where your links are as well.
You could also build some more links to your own website by social bookmarking, blog commenting and even article marketing.
If you need some help with this, please contact me. I am in the UK too and happy to help. You may find that building your own backlinks is the most effective and least expensive option.
Also it does not appear that you have claimed your free google places listing? Please correct me if I am wrong but I definitely think you should take up this option.
All the best, Alison
The first question to ask yourself is what keyphrase you want your website to rank for. Maybe it's "lavenham cottage rental" or "holiday cottage lavenham" or something similar? Once you've decided on the phrase with the most relevancy and traffic/lowest competition ratio, you need to build links with that phrase in the anchor text, but first you need to ensure that your website is optimised for the phrase.
Directory listings are good but often give "no follow" backlinks which means you won't get any "link juice" from them.... but you could well get some customers from those links so they are still valuable.

I've read over and over the "get quality backlinks with Qassia" line.Is it true? Do links from this site help? How do you do it? I know you write the "intel", but where does the backlink link to? Your profile? Or can you change it to different hubs each time?

I've been trying to get a particular article on the first page of Google ever since I made it. It's on the 3rd page now, going up and down that page.I've been making backlinks to it, around a dozen by now. It does not seem to be moving much. So, just how long does it take for backlinks to kick in?I...

Alright, this is a very basic question (yes, I know it is, but.....) I thought I understood this but the other night, someone told me that indexing has no affect on page ranking. He went as far as to say that he has purchased page ranking from Google, etc. I have not heard of...

First of, I don't really know what I'm talking about, or to be more specific, I don't know the name of what I am talking about. But thanks to a few hubbers on here, I have taken to backlinking the easy way. You backlink a hub to...for example...shetoldme...or blurbalicious...one of them anyway.Then...

When ı search about a topic the first page results are not very high quality material, ordinary stuff. Then what makes them on top page?

I did not send some backlinks to some of my hubs recently, and yet they are receiving good traffic. Should I still backlink them anyway? Whats the primarily difference if I did or did not. I usually send 5-10 backlinks or so....
