There are many areas in France which remain unexplored - and that's often the beauty of them. The region called 'Le Centre' is one in particular; unless you have to be by the sea, try this area which has lots of beautiful countryside, castles, cathedrals, mediaeval towns and market towns. It is undulating countryside so good for walking and the River Cher is a mini-Loire! My advice is just stop where you see something interesting and there's usually somewhere to stay - a gîte or a chambres d'hôtes - in the most unlikely places. Happy travelling!
