Sometimes you can see the waves come ashore from 2 sides and converge on shore, then subside together in the center. That creates a rip tide. If you get caught in a rip tide swim to the left or right, DON'T swim toward shore, I was about 10 when I was caught in a rip tide and I didn't know this and almost didn't make it. I hope that helps.
