As a child my Father would take me and my sister swimming in the sea, he would take us out of our depths and encourage us to tread water, as sometimes we would take small boats whilst on holiday out to the islands. Back then life jackets weren't top of the list for the people that ran these boats He always told us that one day being able to tread water may save our lives.
The day came when I watched THAT movie - Jaws!!..Even now I will rarely swim out of my depths, I will usually gauge how far out I go by the amount of other people swimming deeper than me. I know it is an unrational fear, but it is a definite fear of being eaten by a shark. I'm the only pillock who snorkels in shallow water and would rather not see any sea life bigger than a whitebait!
I lived out in South Africa for a couple of years and managed to water ski properly first time, all because I was too scared to be in the water.
So yes, the movie Jaws does enter my mind a lot, even when I'm in the shower!!
