   In the South, my generation was taught from an early age to open the door for others, especially women.

   I open the door for others when ever the opportunity arises, not just women either. Its just the polite thing to do.

   Always. I am a southern lady and I would find it weird if I went any where else in this world and people didn't. If someone is within a few step I hold it open. If it's a mom with her hands full and children in tow or an elderly person I will wait for them to catch up even if they are a little ways behind me. It's just the right thing to do!

   I hold the door open if people come after me or if I see them coming towards a door I am planning on walking through. I also thank people who hold doors open for me.

   Open car doors for ladies and hold them open for anybody when in front. Conversely though, i've had mostly younger females let doors slam right in my face- maybe they're just not taught to hold them open for people behind anymore, who knows.

   I open doors for handicap people and people who may be caring a heavy load because they may have problems opening the door by themselves

      I notice people open doors for me more often when I am using my cane than not. I think it's only common courtesy to hold the door if you see someone coming towards it.

   I open the doors for others. And if I go in or out a door, if I see someone coming, I stay and hold the door until they get there.

    If others are coming after me I always hold the door open for them , it is the right thing to do  & doesn't take much effort !

    I always hold the door for men, and hold the door open for women.  As Longhunter said, that is how Southern men are taught.  It is about respect and courtesy, especially where women are concerned.

    I do and I have taught my sons to also.  However, I have noticed a disturbing trend whereby my son will hold a door open for an older lady (50-75) and they will completely ignore him.  No thank you, no "what a nice young man".... nothing.  They expect the generation coming along to be polite and respectful but aren't quick at showing gratitude themselves.  Just my observation and I know not all are that way.  When my sons question this, I tell them that they don't do it to get thanked, but they do it because its good manners.

       I always say Thank You to show it is appreciated so they help others as well & think it is so rude not to say anything at all . Doesn't take much .....

    If somebody is near the door and it's obvious they're going to walk in as well then I'll always hold the door open. I find a lot of people don't offer the same courteousy when it comes to closing elevator doors however!

    I open the door for others.  If I notice someone heading toward a door with their arms full, I'll go out of my way when possible to open the door for them.  I also hold the door I'm exiting and make sure I don't "drop" it on someone.
    
    We are teaching our boys to always open the door for girls/women and the elderly, as well as common courtesy when exiting a building.

    I do, I do! I go auto pilot whenever I open the door and I gladly offer my service to men, women of all ages and I say: "after you". (:- I also believed that Chivalry is not completely dead. Hmm, now I think that's a good question to throw out there and perhaps hub about it. Thanks for the opening up a door (idea) for me rutley. (:

    Everytime I enter or leave a building, I look to make sure there is no one behind me, so I do not inadvertently let the door close in their face.  I ALWAYS hold the door for anyone following me, be it a man, woman or child.  And, I always, without fail, am treated to a smile, a thank you and the knowledge that I made someones day a little better, in addition to my own.

    because its of good manners I do it for all who need it,  no matter the gender or age....however, some times elders get preference over others !

    Whenever I am out somewhere, I will hold the door for others who are approaching the door while I am in the doorway.  It seems like the natur al thing to do.  It never hurts to spread a little goodwill in the world.

    I am very perticular about opening doors for others regardless of who is there. I don't believe that it should only be men holding doors for the women! I have also taught my children to hold doors for others.
