Why is the cost of a quart of motor oil still over $5, when a gallon of gasoline is now under $2?
It has to do with the refining processes used for both fuels. Gasoline refining is probably cheaper compared to motor oil refining.
I can answer this question with 2 simple words - Corporate Greed! If the big oil companies reduced the price of a quart of oil, then those in management would be crying because they wouldn't be getting their big fat bonus checks. This is going on throughout all of the corporate world. Another dirty trick that those big fat rats in management are doing is not replacing workers as they leave a company. Instead jobs are doubled up between the remaining employees, and the pay that those new replacement workers would have gotten goes straight into the management's bonus checks and into their already stuffed pockets. I could go on forever with this answer, but I think that I'll stop here!
You always hear about so many oil spills. How many gasoline spiills do you hear about? The oil companies are spending extra money to clean up the spills and then produce more oil and repeat the process over and over again. They have to charge more for their oil to pay for this.
