I drove alone two years ago from Southern California to Salt Lake City and back, just spending one night there before coming back. I only got my license the year before and my car isn't exactly reliable. A snow storm started on the way back and I was hysterically afraid that I would die. I could hardly see through the snow, and I passed a truck that had turned over shortly before my car did a 360 and ended up stuck in a pile of snow on the side of the freeway.
Luckily, someone came to help shovel the snow out of my tires, only to show me that one of my tires was broken. I spent the early morning ours waiting for the car shop to open, so I could hurry up and get home.
But for the most part, as long as you have radio you're set.
