Visiting Vermont in the Fall

Each fall the leaves turn and flocks of people come to visit Vermont. Be sure to book your rooms early as this is the time of year that fills up fast.

Autumn is the time to admire the view whether from the peak of a tall mountain after a few hours of hiking or from your car as you drive over the gaps.

One of my favorite drives is to crisscross the Green Mountains lacing your way down through the gaps. One year we even saw a mother moose and her twin babies as we drove through the National Forest and over Middlebury Gap.

When you reach the tops of the gaps you can look down into valleys filled with beautiful fall foliage.

An Autumn Hike

Fall is the ideal time for hiking because the temperatures have started to cool from the summer and, opposed to the spring, the ground is usually dry.

I keep several books about Vermont and New Hampshire hiking trails on a bookshelf in the bathroom. Be sure to check them out whenever you come visit.

There are hiking trails for people of all abilities from expert to wheelchair accessible trails.

Hiking in Vermont - Guide for Hiking in Vermont

The 50 Hikes in Vermont is the ideal guide to hiking in the Green Mountains. There are dozens of day hikes driving distance from Royalton Bed and Breakfast.

Come stay the night, eat a hearty breakfast and then drive off to the nearest trail. After a long day of hiking it is relaxing to return to Royalton Bed and Breakfast to sit by the fire and discuss the wonders of the day.

Springtime at Royalton Bed and Breakfast

In the early spring Vermonters tap trees and boil the sap down to make maple syrup. Huge sugar maples stand tall behind our house.

When you visit Royalton Bed and Breakfast in early spring you can learn about the sugaring process. Vermont makes the best Maple Syrup.

As temperatures rise the icicles melt and springtime flowers open up throughout the yard and along the path to the waterfall.

Vermont Maple Syrup and Springtime Flowers

The first picture shows my oldest helping to tap a huge maple in our yard. We tap the trees, collect the sap, boil it down and turn it into syrup.

Our fresh, maple syrup is delicious on pancakes, ice cream or stirred into candy.

A walk out to the waterfall reveals dozens of wildflowers blooming all along the pathway.

The red flower, with its three petals, is a trillium. It is endangered and should not be picked. Admire these spring flowers where you find them or take pictures of them to show your friends.

The blue flowers are growing in the perennial garden in the front yard here at Royalton Bed and Breakfast. These Grape Hyacinths burst out of the ground in the early spring when often there is still snow on the ground.

Come walk down to the waterfall to see how many different kinds of flowers you see.

Visit Vermont in the Summertime

The grasses grow tall, lush and green in the summer. Come explore the pasture, hike the trails or go tubing down the White River. Summer is one of my favorite times of the year and if you come visit me it may soon be yours as well.

Throughout the summer Vermont offers craft fairs, festivals, car shows and antique shops. You can enjoy exploring the natural environment or take in a show put on by local opera theater troups.

Royalton Bed and Breakfast is the ideal place to stay when taking classes at King Arthur Flour or Vermont Law School.

In the picture you see standing stones that now guide you to the waterfall. Many years ago these stone delineated the road that passed by the front of my house and crossed the brook over to what is now Hitching Post Farm.

Evelyn, I had such a wonderful time staying with you at The Royalton Bed and Breakfast in Vermont! The homemade breakfasts, especially the quiches, were divine. The rooms were beautiful and spacious, and I loved mine. I can't wait to come back!

I've not been able to stay in many, but they are wonderful places. It must just be me, but this one reminds me of Newhart. Today I am on a special lens hunt. Not telling the parameters, but this one was perfect! :o)

I, too, am a bed and breakfast host...I am enjoying looked at bnb pages on Squidoo this morning, and found yours here. I love how you share the images of the seasons at your bed and breakfast. I have added this lens to a growing list on my lens for how to "Start a Bed and Breakfast."

Which of these has proved viable? I've tried lots of different things but so far no one thing has proved to be worth paying for. My second best tip, actually, is to join forces with the opposition. I get most of my guests from other B&B's. When I'm full I send guests to them. Truly blessed.

Excellent ideas. I don't think I'd have the courage to run my own B&B! The next time we visit Vermont, we'll definitely stop by. ;)
