Autumn View from Royalton Bed and Breakfast
Visiting Vermont in the Fall
Each fall the leaves turn and flocks of people come to visit Vermont. Be sure to book your rooms early as this is the time of year that fills up fast.
Autumn is the time to admire the view whether from the peak of a tall mountain after a few hours of hiking or from your car as you drive over the gaps.
One of my favorite drives is to crisscross the Green Mountains lacing your way down through the gaps. One year we even saw a mother moose and her twin babies as we drove through the National Forest and over Middlebury Gap.
When you reach the tops of the gaps you can look down into valleys filled with beautiful fall foliage.
An Autumn Hike
Fall is the ideal time for hiking because the temperatures have started to cool from the summer and, opposed to the spring, the ground is usually dry.
I keep several books about Vermont and New Hampshire hiking trails on a bookshelf in the bathroom. Be sure to check them out whenever you come visit.
There are hiking trails for people of all abilities from expert to wheelchair accessible trails.

Vermont Maple Syrup and Springtime Flowers
The first picture shows my oldest helping to tap a huge maple in our yard. We tap the trees, collect the sap, boil it down and turn it into syrup.
Our fresh, maple syrup is delicious on pancakes, ice cream or stirred into candy.
A walk out to the waterfall reveals dozens of wildflowers blooming all along the pathway.
The red flower, with its three petals, is a trillium. It is endangered and should not be picked. Admire these spring flowers where you find them or take pictures of them to show your friends.
The blue flowers are growing in the perennial garden in the front yard here at Royalton Bed and Breakfast. These Grape Hyacinths burst out of the ground in the early spring when often there is still snow on the ground.
Come walk down to the waterfall to see how many different kinds of flowers you see.
