It's a long time since I've been to Chicago - the last time was on my 18th birthday and that's all I'm saying, but I would love to stay at the Peninsula or the Four Seasons.

So far, I pilgrimage there for the day on the Amtrak Hiawatha on my birthday, since I was born on the south side of Chicago (but moved to California's Central Valley when I was 6 months old).

I haven't stayed at any good hotels in Chicago, they are too expensive for me unfortunately.

Of the hotels on your list I was fortunate to be able to stay at the Ritz-Carlton last time I was in Chicago . It was very nice - fortunately someone else was paying the bill!

We stayed at the Silversmith Hotel a couple years ago -- older but just fine for our mini-vacation! I'll look into the ones you write about for our next trip.

I have stayed at the Palmer House a couple times, love it, has that old classy feel...stayed at the City Suites this year, liked that a lot also.
