Camp Sankanac

Updated on October 4, 2014

Camp Sankanac is a great place for kids to spend a week (or more) at Summer Camp!

Camp Sankanac is a marvelous Christian Camp in Spring City, PA. Camp Sankanac has 4 weeks of boys' camp and 4 weeks of girls' camp every summer. Each week has a fun theme. This is a safe, fun place for kids aged 7 to 16 to spend a summer week. My son has gone every year for the past 6 years, and my daughter has been twice. Camp Sankanac also has Outdoor Education Days, Father-son weekends, Overnight retreats, and facilities to host group retreats. Camp Sankanac is a ministry of BCM International.

What do you do at Camp Sankanac?

Each week has a special theme

Kids go to camp for one week (from Sunday afternoon to Saturday morning). Each week is given a special theme. The boys' themes tend to be more competitive and athletic in nature, and the girls' themes tend to be less competitive or non-competitive games, skits, hunts and the like. The themes play out in the evening activities and the skits during campfires and chapel time. All campers have Bible time and elective classes in the morning, and free time, rest time, and cabin activities in the afternoon. Campers attend chapel in the evening and have campfires. Some popular boys' themes include Army/Navy week, Mission Impossible, Goo Week, and Sankanac Survivor. Some popular girls' themes include Holidazed, Back to the Future, Mission Impossible, Extreme Sankanac Makeover and CSI (Camp Sankanac Investigation). There is also a special Horse Camp certain weeks for girls.

Yes I did. I wanted them to have that experience as well, besides just camping with the family.

Yes. They grew up experiencing the great outdoors just as I had and each of them have a great admiration which I am proud to say...they now pass along to their own children

I spent 51 weeks of my childhood @ Camp Sankanac. Having seen an ad for a company in Spring City, PA this evening, I couldn't resist checking it out via Google. Now I want to do likewise for my Junior Camp Director, Mr Dave(Haas) and the Big Mahaff himself, Mr Roy(Lowery).

I personally know the staff who runs the camp and several of the counselors, kitchen help, and maintenance staff! They are all great people who love kids and love the Lord!

Summer Camps aren't a big thing here in Australia - as far as I'm aware anyway.
