Cheapest Way to travel from LCCT

Updated on October 12, 2014

I went to Kuala Lumpur on August 2012 by Air AsiaX and arrived at LCCT (Low Cost Carrier Terminal), Kuala Lumpur. Prior to my travel, I researched the cheapest way to travel from LCCT to Bukit Bintang area and glad to see there are so many transport options depending on our circumstances.

Here you will find my own personal experience & review using various travel methods from and to LCCT from Bukit Bintang area.

Brief Info about LCCT

LCCT is a low-cost terminal located 20km from the main Kuala Lumpur International Terminal (KLIA) and 75km from the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC). This terminal was initially used as a cargo terminal and it has very basic airport amenities. Therefore, it doesn't have any aerobridges, escalators, etc. LCCT was opened in 23 March 2006, the size of its terminal is 35,290 sq meters. It's mainly used for low-cost airlines, such as AirAsia and AirAsiaX. Check out LCCT Interactive maps here.

Due to increasing demands, they expanded the terminal and opened the new arrival hall on 15 December 2008. There are many restaurants in LCCT, my favorites are Marry Brown and Old Town Coffee Restaurant. We cannot bring our luggage trolley inside the restaurant, and it's safe to leave the trolley outside.

In April 2013, LCCT will be replaced by KLIA2 (the new low cost carriers terminal).

Aerobus

Aerobus runs every 30 minutes and offers another transport option from LCCT to KL Sentral & vice versa.

Ticket Price: RM8 (One-Way), RM14 (Return); For Children: RM4 (One-Way), RM8 (Return)

Travel Time (approximately): 1 hour 15 minutes

Distance: 64km

Schedule: check out Aerobus schedule here

Aerobus also offers a transport from LCCT to Genting and the service runs every 2 hours. The ticket price: RM31.5 (One-Way), RM22.5 (One-Way) for children.

Sky Bus
Sky Bus

SkyBus

SkyBus is the official bus for AirAsia and is currently my preferred travel option from LCCT. We can purchase the SkyBus ticket at the same time when we purchase our AirAsia ticket; or we can also purchase it at the arrival hall or before we board the bus.

SkyBus caters for two destinations:

- KLSentral (which is the Central Transport Hub for the Transportation in Kuala Lumpur)

Ticket Price: RM9 LCCT-KL Sentral & RM10 KL Sentral-LCCT; RM4 for Children

Please buy the ticket 30 minutes before departure.

Travel Time (approximately): 1 hour 15 minutes

Distance: 64km

Schedule:

- 1Utama (in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia).

Ticket Price: RM15 LCCT-1Utama & vice versa

Please buy the ticket 30 minutes before departure.

Travel Time (approximately): 1 hour 15 minutes

Distance: 65km

Schedule:

I purchased my SkyBus ticket when I purchased AirAsia ticket. It was very easy and I just showed the AirAsia invoice to the bus driver. When I took SkyBus from LCCT to KL Sentral, the bus was only 25% full. It was a smooth ride with not much traffic and I arrived in KL Sentral 1 hour after the bus departed from LCCT.

Star Shuttle
Star Shuttle

Star Shuttle

Star Shuttle provides shuttle from Klang Valley & Puduraya to LCCT & vice versa; as well as hotel shuttle from and to LCCT/KLIA.

Ticket Price:

Puduraya -> LCCT/KLIA: RM12

Perhentian Bas Batu 3, Jalan Ipoh -> LCCT/KLIA: RM10

LCCT -> Puduraya / Perhentian Bas Batu 3, Jalan Ipoh: RM 8

KLIA -> Puduraya / Perhentian Bas Batu 3, Jalan Ipoh: RM 10

Ipoh <-> KLIA <-> LCCT: RM42 (one-way), RM75 (return)

Sitiawan <-> Teluk Intan <-> KLIA/LCCT: RM45 (one-way), RM80 (return)

Hotel transfer from KLIA/LCCT to City Hotels: RM18

Hotel Transfer from City Hotels to KLIA/LCCT: RM20

Travel Time: Depending on where we depart the bus / limousine. If it's hotel transfer, it's around 2 hours travel time

Schedule:

As I wanted to experience various travel option to go to LCCT, I decided to take Star Shuttle (hotel transfer service from my hotel in Bukit Bintang area to LCCT.

I booked their service one day prior to the departure date by calling them on (+603) 4043 8811. They reconfirmed the booking in the morning on the day of the departure by calling us on our hotel (confirming our names, departure time and our hotel room number). As our flight was scheduled to leave at 11PM, they suggested to pick us up at 6.30PM in the lobby of the hotel.

Due to heavy traffic, they were a bit late. The driver arrived at around 6.50PM and Star Shuttle used a small van (which will be enough for 4 passengers and plenty of rooms for luggage).

The driver dashed through the heavy traffic of Kuala Lumpur and in 20 minutes, we arrived at the Star Shuttle Bus Stand in Jl. Ipoh. We paid RM40 (for two people) while we waited for the coach.

Around 15 minutes later, the coach arrived. The seat was comfortable, and I was able to sleep on the long journey to LCCT. They stopped 3 times (once in the middle of the road to pick up one passenger, then in one Bus station (I think), then in KLIA) before we finally arrived in LCCT. The whole journey (from the hotel to LCCT) took more than 2 hours. Not recommended if you are in a hurry.

LCCT/KLIA Transit
LCCT/KLIA Transit

LCCT/KLIA Transit

With the speed of 160km/hour, KLIA Express is the fastest travel option from KLIA airport.

If we travel to and from LCCT, they offer KLIA Transit option in which we'll take a shuttle bus from and to LCCT from Salak Tinggi Station. We then take KLIA Transit train from that station to KL Sentral.

Ticket Price: RM12.50 (One-Way), RM22 (Return); For Children: RM6 (One-Way), RM11 (Return).

Travel Time: 1 Hour 7 Minutes

Schedule: Runs every 30 minutes. From LCCT, the service starts from 7.20AM - 00.35AM; From KL Sentral, the service starts from 4.33AM - 00.33AM.

I personally never traveled from LCCT to KL Sentral using KLIA Transit. But I used KLIA Transit to travel from KL Sentral to Putrajaya and loved it. It's fast, on-time (yes on-time, we missed it by few seconds) and clean. Very convenient travel option.

Taxi

Taxi is the most convenient way to travel from and to LCCT as it will go directly to our hotel; but it's the most expensive. It takes around 1 hour (depending on the traffic) and if we travel in a group (more than 3 people) or with young children, I recommend taxi for a hassle-free travel to and from LCCT.

I took a family taxi from LCCT with my family (6 adults, 1 children) and it took us less than 1 hour to reach our hotel in Bukit Bintang area (thankfully the traffic was not bad because it was a holiday in Kuala Lumpur).

We can buy taxi voucher at the Taxi counter in the arrival hall and we can choose three different taxi type: Budget (for 2 - 4 people with minimal luggage), Premiere (for 4 - 5 people) and Family (for 7 - 8 people with lots of luggage).

Taxi cost (fixed) from LCCT to Bukit Bintang area:

Budget: RM74.30

Premiere: RM102.10

Family: RM199.80

Check out the fixed taxi cost from LCCT to other area on Mesra Indah Jaya site.

To compare the taxi cost, I recommend taxi autofare site. This site will tell the approximate taxi cost and travel distance if we use a metered taxi (the blue one).

Please note that there is 50% taxi surcharge from midnight - 6PM.

Travel Option from KL Sentral to Bukit Bintang Area

Monorail

KL Sentral Monorail Station is located around 5 minutes walk from SkyBus Terminal. I believe they are currently building a walk-way from KL Sentral to the Monorail Station.

We can bring our luggage inside the monorail (but it's recommended not to take our luggage inside the monorail during the peak hours as the monorails will be very crowded).

It's very cheap to travel by monorail to hotels in Bukit Bintang area and it runs every 3 minutes.

The travel cost:

If we stay at Melia Hotel / Berjaya Times Square Hotel / Picollo Hotel; it costs only RM1.6 to travel from KL Sentral to Imbi Station.

If we stay at Grand Millennium, Fahrenheit Suites; we can stop at Bukit Bintang Station and it costs RM2.10.

If we stay at Shangri-La / Concorde, take the monorail and stop at Bukit Nanas Station, it costs RM2.10.

Taxi

It's very easy and quite cheap to take taxi from KL Sentral to Bukit Bintang area. It will cost us not more than RM13.

There are two taxi counters in KL Sentral, one is very close to SkyBus Stand (downstairs) and the other one is inside KL Sentral (close to the main entrance).

I took a taxi from KL Sentral to a hotel in Bukit Bintang area, it cost RM13 and took around 10 minutes.
