Rainforest Chefs offers culinary and cooking vacations for one or two or large groups,we believe that sustainability is King! and we should all practice sustainable and conscious efforts. We will go out of our way to get you to the best and most secluded of farms and local farmed practices.

Rainforest Chefs has established relationships with farmers that are ongoing, and we work hand in hand with them to move the islands forward in sustainability. The Big Island has many different types of fa, not just the conventional dirt and grass land farm but Aquaponics farming, deep ocean high mineral salt farming, Abalone, Halibut, Black Cod or what is referred here in the islands as well as in Japan as Butterfish. Moi the very special fish reserved for only the Ali'i (Kings) is also farmed in Hawaii.

On this tour we will stop in and visit these places and see just what is possible given the right environment and growing conditions.

Puna Gardens Palm Hearts Hawaiian Grown

Fresh Hearts of Palm Big Island Style

Rick and Mary are the farmers of this brainchild. Fresh hearts of palm right here in Hawaii. I am sure that most people have had the canned version of this on salads or maybe even in some type of Chinese food. Well here we have tons and I do mean tons of it growing. At Puna Gardens they produce hundreds of pounds of fresh palm hearts for sale here and at many other places including many top restaurants on the mainland. We at Rainforest Chefs work very hard with these guys in not only using there palm hearts but utilizing their many other crops as well. Mary is one of the best producers of super healthy not to mention packed wit nutrients and gorgeous Micro Greens. Puna Gardens

These guys know fresh, You see they have edible flowers, gingers, vanilla, chocolate, miracle berry, black pepper and many other fresh local ingredients.

Rainforest Chefs Offers Tailor Made Culinary Classes and Tours of The Big Island

Big Island Culinary Vacations

Rainforest Chefs Culinary Vacations offers culinary vacations and tours to many of the farms and Farmers markets around Hawaii. we believe that the Big Island is one of the worlds best and most resource laden lands in the world and should be viewed as such. Sustainability is the goal of Rainforest Chefs and we are striving to show the world just what is available here on the Big Island. There are classes that offer use of the islands chocolate farms and vanilla orchids fruits and incorporate the world famous Kona coffee as well. We love the many unique flavors that we have here and the diffrences in taste of the same ingredients that are found in many other places around the world. Hawaiian culinary tours offers you the chance to taste the bounty that has grown here and to showcase the farms and farmers that are responsible for them.

Among the many rare ingredients that Hawaii has to offer there is the infamous wasabi. Wasabi has for many years remained a mystery but now the art and secrets are out so the fresh Hawaiian Wasabi is here to stay. This pungent root is in the horseradish family and has more of the characteristics of mustard than hot chilli. There is no substitute for the real thing, the dried powder you so often see is really just horseradish with dye in it. Wasabi Info

Hawaiian Vanilla Culinary Tours

Big Island Hawaiian Vanilla Company

Vanilla is among one of the worlds most expensive spices. The Vanilla comes from an orchid, if you can believe that. Jim learned this ar form from an old Japanese man many years ago in Kailua Kona Hawaii. Jim now does the majority of the farming with his family on the Hamakua coast here in Hawaii.Hawaiian Vanilla

the vanilla orchid flowers very rarely and for a very short period of time, at which time it has to be pollinated by hand in a short very short window of time.Big Island Culinary vacations and tours will take you to the Hawaiian Vanilla Company allowing you to get first hand knowledge about the growth and production of vanilla. If you're lucky we may be able to stop in and get a Hawaiian Style meal prepared entirely of vanilla.

Kona Coffee, the Kona Coffee & Tea Company

The World Renowned Kona Coffee

Director of Operations and a very genuine person, Malia Bolton is more that happy to stop and take time out to talk with you and even show you just what goes into the perfect handling of Kona Coffee. You see its not just great coffee right out of the ground, off the tree there's a lotttt taa little steps that goes into the preparation of Kona Coffee Cherry. ( That's raw coffee bean).

Grown on the slopes of Hualalai this coffee is some of the islands very best and is handled as it should be, they take pride and meticulous care in the harvesting and process of this coffee. Very and I do mean very few people/farms handle their coffee from the beginning to the end processing this not only shows in the end result but you also know what you get when you do it yourself.

To take a quote directly from the family I say " It is a passion, not just a business. It serves a higher purpose than merely selling tasteful stimulates." and as all that know me know I do not give "food" recommendations but I will say this is a place I frequent on most every visit to Knoa. I look forward to this...it's refreshing to see the family Aloha spirit alive.

Hawaii Islands North Kohala County Fair
Hawaii Islands North Kohala County Fair

North Kohala, Islands best County Fair

Sustainable living on the Big Island, Food, Fun and Games

Kohala County Fair brought us new design, food booths, games and best of all a seed exchange. North Kolaha County Fair has been getting increasingly larger year by year, and this year was no different, with a turnout of over three thousand and tons of fun things to do, the fair took center stage here on the island the last week of September. Good food, fun, games and best of all many local food vendors and farmers from North Kohala. Organic farms and agriculture demonstrations, from solar to wind and every thing in between.
