Please take a moment for the residents of Haiti

   I find it very disconcerting that I could come on here at this point in time and see threads about Sarah Palin, the use of technology and fashion trends, but not a mention about the people in Haiti.
   
   Please let's get our priorities straight and take a moment out of our day to pray for them -- or volunteer to go and help them.

      My experience is that human beings look away from tragedies that are too horrific to comprehend. I know I can't begin to consider what these poor people just went through.

         Yoshi, I have no words.  Thank you for putting words to what I'm feeling. To what most of the world is feeling. I'll send all the money I can. But I still feel so helpless to do anything.  Shock and paralysis is what most of the world is feeling right now. But you said it better than anyone else I have heard or talk to today.  This is just too horrific to comprehend. God Please Help them.  God Please help us to help them them. In Jesus name I pray to you. Amen.

      I think everyone is just aghast at what has happened and I am sure many of us will make donations.  clearly the country will need to rebuild - and I just cannot imagine how shattered the lives are of those people who are left.  So many have lost family members and friends, houses and all belongings.
      
      What a tragedy.

   Your post comes across as a little judgmental.  I hope you didn't mean it that way.  You have no way of knowing what any of us have done today in regard to the crisis in Haiti.  Creating a post on here is nice, but in and of itself does nothing to help the residents there.

   I really don't like it when people make assumptions about how I spend my day, time, or whether or not I've made donations or care about the world, based about what I post in a forum.
   
   The lecture wasn't needed and wasn't appreciated. In fact the tone has rather pissed me off. My priorities don't need straightening out.

      Nelle, Please know that I was not directing this to anyone individually. I came on the forums for the first time today, and what I read seemed (to me at least) rather frivolous in light of what has happened. It made me feel about us as a community the way you feel about me right now. I in no way meant to insult any individual(s), and especially you. I hold you in the highest regard. But coming on here and seeing multiple threads about Sarah Palin and nothing about the Haitians made me sad and a bit pissed off. Well, really pissed off I guess.
      
      Thousands are dead, maybe tens of thousands. Maybe I'm being a bit ridiculous, but I find it difficult to believe that Sarah Palin deserves more of our thoughts.

         People are justified in being upset with what you said. I'm sure most people understand it. After a day of being in shock, and hearing one horror story after another; I came here to hubpages.  I read the comment from Yoshi, and I cried and I prayed and I feel a little better. Let's not be too critical of anybody's comment today.  If you heard the comments by Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robinson; you will understant that most people are just trying to make sense of this horror, only a few of us are intentionally saying evil hurtful things because the opportunity presented itself.

      I'm with you on this. While I feel just as badly as I'm sure anyone else does for the poor people in Haiti, it's not anyone else's place to tell the people of Hubpages where their priorities ought to lie.
      
      Plenty of us have been inundated all day with the news and pictures and suffering of people involved in this terrible tragedy and might like to relax talking and thinking about other things, with their friends here on the forums.
      
      For all we know some of the people trying to relax here might be volunteers who have spent the last day searching for the dead and giving medical aid to the wounded in Haiti.
      
      For all we know some of the people here might have spent their day knocking door to door to raise money to send to the people in Haiti.
      
      For all we know some of the people here might have opened their wallets and given of it generously.
      
      For all we know there are people here who spent their day, or part of it, in prayer for the people of Haiti, and if there are people who haven't it's not anyone's business to tell them to.
      
      I understand the sentiment, but the presumption sort of erases the intention.

    And, to defend Irohner.....does the abuse need to continue? I mean come on. It seems like the point is being missed that Irohner apparent cares about it and as friends, we should support the reasoning. There really isn't a problem with what was said.
    
    It's how it was interpreted, and unfortunately, many took it the wrong way. There isn't a need for a continued beratement.
    
    If you've read the OP, then good. If you took offense to it, then you didn't understand the reasoning behind posting it.
    
    Many people are being very negative, instead of changing their tune, because a tragedy has occurred, which is what Irohner was upset at in the first place.
    
    I mean seriously folks. Thousands of people died. Does it take someone like ME to point this out, even if pisses you off, because you, as an individual jumped the gun, without understanding.
    
    I mean the OP could have been taken, in the manner, which it should have been taken- with kindness, sorrow and understanding.
    
    Irohner was upset at the community, as a whole, and has the right to complain, as do anyone else. At the one time, when compassion should have ruled, it was thrown out the window, because some felt that they were insulted.
    
    Now how ridiculous is that? Let's keep our eye on the ball people. We ALL have to live in the world. If human descency is no longer available within society, then WE have bigger problem.
    
    More so than anyone realizes.
    
    If you get offended by my words, please check your ego at the door. It's not about you. It's about thousands who have died.

       With all due respect, Cagsil. Its how a thread is approached. We at Hubpages should have consideration for others. And be careful on how conversations are started up. Its not an ego. Its compassion. Respect in your wording. Such as "In memory of what happened in Haiti with the hurricane situation" Can we take a moment of reflection for them.. etc. And, go on from there. We approach each other with respectful words.

    The tragedy reminds me of Katrina, I hope it doesn't turn out like Katrina.  Although I have been watching the coverage on the news most of the day, and shedding a few tears along the way, Irohner, I do understand where you're coming from. 
    
    While donating is in order, we've just been warned about the scammers that take advantage of tragedies like these, so for now I'm in a holding pattern, until further notice.  Thanks Irohner for your sympathetic post.

    I for one feels for that Country. If Hubpages could donate a huge amount to help with rebuilding and a memorable funeral for their victims who didn't make it would be great. It is truely a sad time . A mental candy lights for all who perished .

       All good charities, AIP is only one watchdog report and should only be considered as one of the elements to decision making but it's my personal guide.
       
       AIP ratings for AmeriCares & CWS are both "A", The Red Cross is "A-" (but there are actually three seperate Red Cross groups and I'm not sure which one has been given this rating), UNICEF did not make the top 500 but there's an article on the AIP site that may explain it.  Just food for thought.

    I feel so bad for those people,..they were allready so proverty strucken.  Very very sad,..hopfully something good will come from it,..like rebuilding and aid.
