Gallerie Fokus

Updated on April 6, 2014

1st Gallery Show In 11 Years

On March 16th of 2014 I hung my 3rd solo gallery show. I traveled to Montreal, Quebec to do this. I found this opportunity on an online community for visual artists. I submitted a proposal and it was accepted. I traveled to Montreal by bus. I had selected 29 pieces to hang in this show. These were a collection of smaller paintings and drawings.

The art gallery is also a Hungarian restaurant. It is located in the plateau region of Montreal. It is on Avenue Duluth at number 68. I had a recollection of being on this street as a 20 year old girl. This memory was stirred up as I walked down the street. The road was made of cobblestone. I had briefly attended art school in Montreal when I was 20 years old. I had made a friend. I was walking down this street with her. Somebody wanted to know if there were any good restaurants to eat at. She was a punk girl and was rude to them. She let them know that there were lots of fancy restaurants around if you were rich and could afford to eat at them.

Waiting For The Man

I stood outside in the subzero weather for a short time. I snapped the above photograph to post on Facebook. My portfolio case is sitting in front of the gallery. I was 40 minutes early. I decided to wait in a shop down the street. This store sells hemp products. I glanced at all their offerings and chatted with the sales woman. She showed me some books which I was already aware of. They were books about the poisonous path. This is something somebody had been showing me recently. I browsed recipes in a vegan cookbook. It was a vegan cookbook for stoners. I explained that I don`t smoke much marijuana anymore. I discussed how I had recently become vegan. The French saleswoman was friendly. I passed a half hour browsing the store.

Hanging The Show

Eventually the man arrived who I had been speaking to. I learned that he is running as a candidate for the Green Party in the upcoming election. His interest in politics was why he got into visual art. He thinks that artists show what society is going through when they create. He helped me hang everything. The restaurant was not fancy. There was a bit of water damage which had recently occured. The chef is a gypsie. There is some Eastern European music they play. There is music every Sunday with violin and cimbalom.

I love eclectic little shops like where friendly and chatty sales people are helpful and now almost a thing of the past.

@Elsie Hagley: Thank you! I have to admit that I rushed this one to publish it on time for the quest. I do hope to come back and add more details later. It`s hard to find the time when I am on the road.
