My dream vacation to Glencoe, Scotland
I have always wanted to visit the Highlands in Scotland
Something about the Scottish Highlands calls to me... especially the area around Glencoe. Maybe I lived in Scotland in a past life?
I did live in England for a few months during high school, but I never got all the way up to Scotland. Going there, or maybe even living there is definitely on my bucket list!
All the photographs I've seen of the Highlands draw me closer. There's just something about the place that speaks to me in a way that nowhere else on Earth has. Have you ever seen a photo of someplace and know you just belonged there? That's how I feel about Scotland.
I hope that after you've finished reading my page, you will come away with the same awe for Glencoe, Scotland that I have.
Here's a video that tourscotland posted of a drive west through Glencoe! - If this video doesn't inspire you to want to visit here, I don't know what will
For now, this is probably the closest I'll come
There are no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives in this delicious cake.
I think this cake would make a terrific Christmas present (did you hear that, Mom?)
Glencoe Valley, near the village of Glencoe, Lochaber, Highlands, Scotland
This is one of the images that caused me to fall in love with Glencoe. Just look at it! Doesn't it look beautiful? This is a photograph of Glencoe Valley. I once pinned a photo of Glencoe to Pinterest, and it had 79 repins! So obviously I am not the only one smitten with Glencoe!

Places to stay in Glencoe
So you're headed to Glencoe, eh? I have to say I'm a little bit jealous. But here are two very nice sounding places to stay.
The not so sunny side of Glencoe
The massacre of Glencoe
The Campbell/MacDonald rivalry was an ancient one. The highland clans often raided each other. In 1688 members of the MacDonald clan on their way home from the battle of Killiecrankie raided and looted Robert Campbell's land.
This placed him in a very precarious financial position. In 1692, under the guise of a military action, the Campbells attacked the MacDonalds of Glencoe (even though Campbells regiment was billeted on MacDonald land).
38 men of the MacDonald clan were murdered. 40 of their wives and children died of exposure after their homes were burned.

This beautiful song gives you a pretty good idea of what happened during the massacre at Glencoe.
