Unique Holidays in Dubai

Enjoy an enticing vacation in Dubai, United Arab Emirates!

While the United Arab Emirates might not be the first place you'd think of to spend a fine international vacation, holidays in Dubai can be full of history, good food, great shopping, and so much more.

Where is Dubai?

Dubai is one of the seven emirates of the country known as the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Located in the Middle East on the Persian Gulf, the United Arab Emirates is an oil-rich country that borders Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Dubai has long been a Middle East port city, once excelling in the trade of semi-precious stones and pearls. It was established by the British in the late 18th century to facilitate trade with India.

Though the pearl trade declined by the mid 1900s, Dubai had already discovered its rich oil reserves and soon became one of the wealthiest places on earth.

What to See in Dubai

If you've considered visiting the Middle East, a holiday in Dubai can give you a great taste of what life is like in the oil-rich countries located in this part of the world.

Attractions and activities are varied and guests will experience a little of everything, from museums that are rich in history to active pursuits like golf or watersports.

The Dubai Museum is a good place to start your tour of the city. Located in the Al Fahaidi Fort, this museum provides guests with an interesting look at the culture and history of the city, particularly throughout the 20th century and into the millennium.

The Dubai Heritage and Diving Village allows visitors to experience the sights of old Dubai and view the more traditional aspects of Dubai life. At the Village, you'll see ancient artifacts and also have the opportunity to purchase unique crafts made by locals.

Hatta Rock Pools & The Jumeirah Strip

One of the most beautiful sights in all of Dubai is the lovely Hatta Rock Pools, located in the crags of the Hajar Mountains. Here you'll find crystal-clear waterfalls and hidden spring-fed pools. Enjoy a hike and remember to bring your camera!

If you're interested in spending a little time at the beach, head to the Jumeirah strip, home to some of the city's prettiest beaches. Jumeirah Beach is the perfect family beach, with lots of lifeguards on duty and plenty of palm trees for shade.

Wild Wadi Waterpark & the Dubai Golf Club

Holidays in Dubai should include a visit to the Wild Wadi Waterpark. A literal oasis in the middle of the desert, this enchanting and fun waterpark boasts 23 rides that every member of the family will love. You'll find a relaxing lazy river, a wave pool, and lots of high waterslides, just right for the most courageous of visitors.

Golf aficionados will want to visit the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, which has played host to the PGA European Tour Desert Classic. Along with the championship 18-hole course, you'll find a full service yachting club here as well as six fine restaurants.

Shopping in Dubai

Holidays in Dubai will need to include some time for shopping. Dubai has long touted itself as the shopping capital of the Middle East. And, indeed, you'll find some of the best duty free shopping in the world in this city, including jewelry, clothing, unique local items, art, and much more.

When to Visit Dubai

Because of the desert climate, the summer months of May through October are quite hot.

Holidays in Dubai are most popular from November through April, when the average temperatures range from about 70º to 85º, perfect for sightseeing and active outdoor pursuits.

I have read a lot about Dubai and it seems to be a wonderful place. Many experiences have been narrated to me by my friends after their return. I hope 'Flicker' would like to change over to some other site for 'creative commons' in place of 'Flickr'.

I have seen Dubai featured in some of the shows on TV (60 minutes, GMA etc). You're right though, I would have never thought of vacationing there. Although I am a bit curious about their indoor ski slope - nice lens!
