Asian Cultures in Kansas City
An Asian Experience in Kansas City
Kansas City has an active Asian population with events and celebrations all through the year. What Kansas City doesn't have is a "Chinatown"t; or even one neighborhood where you can go to find Asian businesses or events. But they can be found if you know where to look.
We have the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum which has a very fine collection of Asian Art, the annual Dragon Boat Races, Japan Festival, and Ethnic Festival along with many various holiday celebrations.
On this page you'll find a few clues to help you discover a few gems.

Dragon Boat Races - Country Club Plaza
Dragon Boat Festival
in Kansas City
Annual Dragon Boat Festival at Brush Creek, Country Club Plaza on Saturday, June 11, 2011
" Anyone who sees a dragon boat won't forget it. Painted in bright colors, with heads that feature bulging eyes and bright-white fangs, they are to ordinary boats what a centipede is to a beetle - 40 feet long and 650 to 1,300 pounds, dragon boats require 20 paddlers, plus a drummer and a steersman.
But they fly through the water, if a team achieves the synchronicity borne of many hours of practice. "
