Key West Cars
Key West Cars - Cars with Flair!
This Squidoo article, Key West Cars is strictly for amusement so don't expect anything too deep. I'm in Key West for an extended vacation (6 weeks in Paradise!) following the death of my Mom, Gertie. I was her caregiver for the past 5 years and, before she died, I whispered in her ear that if she wanted to find me, I'd be in Key West. Little did I know that I'd become so fascinated with Key West cars though.
Once you step foot from Key West airport or get out of your own rental car after the long drive down the Overseas Highway (including a passage over open water on the 7 mile bridge), you're sure to find Key West cars to be as amusing as I do. All of these automobiles take on a personality of their own (or their kookie drivers).
Come along and see some of the interesting cars I've found on the island. I expect to update this article with more pictures as they occur so bookmark it and drop back by.
The picture of the car in this section is a car that's not even from Key West! Pretty darned cool is you ask me.

Some of my favorite Key West cars don't really look like much but they sure have personality. Car bumper stickers aren't the only things that decorate these vehicles - there might be reef sponges glued to the headlights, gecko lizard art on the doors etc.
Almost as interesting as the cars of Key West are the characters who climb out of them. A quick chat about how cool their Key West car looks will generally get you into a 30-40 minute conversation about their own philosophy of life. Pretty interesting stuff.
Here's a few things that I've found to make your own Key West car:

No self respecting Key West car is without a special steering wheel cover
Now, granted, some of the Key West cars I've found and photographed don't even have steer wheels but, if the car is an actual moving vehicle, even the wheel has a personality of its own. I've seen everything from girl's underwear to furry pink covers on the steering wheels down here in Key West, Florida, and, in fine fashion, I've identified some of these items on Amazon so you can pimp your own ride.
Animal Print Steering Wheel Cover and Shoulder Belt Pad
White Tiger Zebra
Winnie The Pooh And Friends Steering Wheel Cover
Officially Licensed Hello Kitty Steering Wheel Cover
Key West Car poll
Anyone can take this poll, not just Squidoo members. So, let your opinions be known.
Would you drive/ride in a Key West car?
Key West is sort of known for its Tinkerbells
I think this steering wheel cover is just da bomb and am guessing that the ladies of 801 Bourbon street or Lateda would really love it.
Key West cars sometimes end up as yard art
Key West is about free love...
...or paid love, depending on which part of town you happen to be in. I think these heart beaded decals would be the perfect decoration for a Key West car.
Key West cars always have cool seat covers and floor mats
For each imaginative item pasted/soldered or magnetized to the outside of these special Key West cars, the inside is every bit as much fun. I love some of the cool seat covers and floor mats you see down here. In fact, you can pimp your ride easily by buying complete sets of items for the interior of your Key West ride. Here's a few complete car sets for your perusal:
Don't even THINK about creating your own Key West Car
Without a rear view mirror cover
The personality of Key West cars is through and through. Who wouldn't laugh each time they look in the rear view mirror of a Key West car? Here's some really fun rear view mirror covers so you can pretend to be way cool too:
