Legoland California

Updated on November 8, 2014

A trip for two legomaniacs!

When it comes to theme parks, the one my kids really wanted to go to was Legoland. Both my kids were legomaniacs so a whole park geared to their obsession was quite exciting for them. Eventually we made it, and although the kids were a bit older by that time they still really enjoyed it. Lego is creative, colourful and a lot of fun as you will see in this lens!

California bound

A few years ago we were lucky enough to spend a week in California. (we live in Southern, Ontario, Canada). There was passports to be gotten, reservations to be made and an itinerary to be planned. Top of the list was a visit to Legoland, a place my son had been wanting to go to since he was eight. (he was 18 when we finally made the trip). All of us loved Anaheim, California where we stayed for most of the trip. Different scenery, lovely weather and an overall calmness in the air!

The year we went to Legoland was the year they were celebrating their 10th anniversary. The park is divided into themes that correspond with the various lego set themes - like Dino Island, Castle Hill, Pirate Shores and more. Throughout the park there are rides to reflect the theme area you are in and statues all made out of lego.

The Rides

The park featured rides for all ages and all personalities. You could ride the faced paced Bionicle roller coaster or enjoy a family car ride through the pyramids (albeit shooting skeletons throughout). Little ones could ride the joust ride, and big kids could spin around on the robotic arms. There was a great mixture of rides and fun for everyone!

My favourite ride was the slow boat ride along Fairy Tale Brook. There were lots of storybook characters (built out of lego of course) to see. See if you can name the story each character was from.

Great lego inspired quote:

"Playtime is important. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you are building, as long as you're having fun."

Open the door for learning with LEGO

LEGO is a great tool for learning. From as early as preschool and sorting colours all the way to high school's engineering class there is a LEGO system that can inspire lessons. Lego's various sizes and dots can be a great math manipulative for counting, multiplying, measuring and more. Lego' can also inspire Science lessons, architecture, art and you could even use the stacking concept to help build vocabulary.

Tour the Park

Have you ever been to legoland? - Thanks for reading!

We homeschool also and my 11-year old loves to spend part of each day building with Legos and K'Nex. I think they are wonderfully educational! Great lens...I hope we can make it to Legoland someday. Looks like so much fun! :)
