Museums and the Treasures Within

Updated on February 20, 2015

Museums and the Treasures Within

Many museums are devoted to collecting art, others collect artifacts of a particular theme. It is the art museums that we will explore here.

Since the masters were basically European, great collections of their works have been housed in some well known museums. While other museums may have some pieces, the significant pieces of art are clustered in European museums. For one thing, these museums already had their collections well before most museums on other continents even existed, and museums simply do not part with a major work.

The image is that of the New Orleans Museum of Art, which is located in North America. However, it has a nice collection of Faberge Eggs. And, since I took the picture, I have full rights to use it.

Intro Image: Black Spaniel Gallery has taken, and fully owns, this image. We have the right to use it. No link can be provided.

Rick Steves is interesting, and goes into areas not easily found. His travel DVDs are fantastic.

Fabrege Eggs

The real Fabrege eggs are astounding.

Often Museums Are Inexpensive

The people who authorize museums intend that they be used. Thee is no point in opening an exhibit and have few people visit it. So, some museums are free, and some are rather inexpensive.

In the New Orleans area there are a number of museums. Occasionally, a Louisiana driver's license will get you in free. I am not certain if any are free for everyone. One, the New Orleans Museum of Art, is shown in the introductory image, and is located in City Park. But, there are many in the New Orleans French Quarter, including the old New Orleans Mint, the Cabildo, and the Presbyter. Other small museums are scattered about, but you can easily miss them if you do not know where they are. Each museum has its own purpose for being, so visit the museums that match your interest.

Please speak up here.

I love visiting museums and art galleries, you have shared some well known art here. My tastes run towards realism, Dali, Michelangelo, but they are all good!
