On the trail of James Bond - hot summer impressions from Lake Garda (Italy)

Updated on August 28, 2013

Hello, thatâs me, an »old girl«, on my summer vacation at Lake Garda (Italy).

In a hot red speedboat I let my ears be blown by the airstream. Behind me you have a view to a lot of small windows in the rocks. There leads a street, hidden by the stone wall, from Limone to Tremosine and further to the South along the shore of Lake Garda, in the direction of Lazise.

My good news for James-Bond-Fans: Exactly this rocks, you see behind me, were used by the producers of »Casino Royal« for an exciting car chase. To be honest: We drove also somewhat faster along the rock walls in order to get a sense for the suspense. Wuhu, it was each time spicy and really thrilling!

Lake Garda and its imposing nature

Already two summers before, I was falling in love with this imposing rocks around Lago di Garda.

I enjoyed the view to the mighty Dolomites, the sun on the waves, the airstrem in the speedboat and the feeling to have a steady hand on the tiller. With my family we took up quarters in the Casa Croce around 700 meters over the water of Lake Garda. Have a view at the photo and the clifftop there. That’s what I saw every morning from my balcony at eye level.

This summer I have repeat the times of impressions and nature enjoyments, the adventures and times of pure relaxation. This crooked photo of »my« neighbor cliff was made from the speedboat. So you can better imagine the impressive differences in the mountain region. In my Casa Croce I have always a sense of bigness. Every day it made me smile to live all day so high over the tree tops, to take day by day the possible decision to remain so big or to immerse into the hustle and bustle of the touristic city Limone. Most of the time I decided to remain big.

I needed some attempts - ... in order to get this motive exactly from this perspective.

Perhaps you will find this photo - similar - on postcards and in marketing prospects about Tremosine. But this photo is mine, I looked for, found and made it from the pool shore.

Every day, we were for swimming in the »Residence La Berna«. Italy was hot, but the water was always cold. Every day I had to laugh about all the pale Europeans (the most of them German tourists, same as we). They needed a lot of time to go slowly deeper and deeper from the 37° C outside into the felt temperature of minus 37°C inside. Actually, the poolwater had always 21 °C - freshly, but enjoyable.

City Limone - one of our day trips

The Lake Garda shores belong 5 month a year to the tourists.

They all come mostly from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The natives have adapted their life to this fact. There are bars, restaurants and fictional characters in living street art. Boats for round courses and yachts for Lake Garda trips are provided on the shores.

One citizen of Limone told us: All people in the tourist industry around the Lake Garda are working only five month, but 24 / 7 in this time. In the other seven month they have earned enough in order to live well and to pay an own vacation - often in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. An exciting life attitude and an exciting symbiosis, isn’t it?

My favorite motive: Sunset over the Dolomites, on the other shore of Northern Lake Garda

I do not like the hustle and bustle on the shores.

But all year I come back, dress me pretty, paint my face and imagine, it would be the present reality.

My true motivation for vacation there is the unique landscape. See yourself! Could you hide the camera in your bag in front of such lot majesty?

There are many more things I love here. The city Limone has its name from the sour fruit. It is cultivated in and around the city in big plantations. Imagine a big citron, wizenly and yellow, trees with much citron greenery. The twigs bend under their sour burden. Curious tourists bite into the dry fruit pulp - and recognize with contorted face, that lemons of Limone only develop a fine taste in cocktails.

Here I am without my blue skin - Sometimes I love it only to sit in the sun.

Sometimes, and never without my pretty hat. Normally, I love the mountains in Sweden, the icefields of Greenland or the German winter in Thuringia. But my family originates (some generations before) from Italy. So we made a compromise: I get »my« rocks, they get their hot weather, and we all get common vacations.

... to get nice feedback from all over the world!

What about chatting from summer, Italy vacation and James Bond? - I look forward to read from Italy insiders or ...

@CampingmanNW: Wow, thank you very much for the SquidLike! Not only in my vacation I love it to be outdoor as often as possible (with my dog and my ideas). It is nice to read here about people with the same passion for nature!

@DreyaB: Hello, thank you for you interest! It is true, it's a beautiful spot in the world. I don't need all these touristic centers. But never I could forget the majesty of the Dolomites and this wonderful home high in the mountains. It's love.

I haven't been to Garda, but we were lucky enough to holiday at Lake Como a few years ago. It was wonderful and I can also highly recommend northern Italy. So beautiful.
