My Top 3 Favorite Things To Do In Hawaii (Oahu, Island)

Updated on December 11, 2013

Oahu, my favorite Hawaiian Island

Hawaii most especially the Island of Oahu is my home away from home. My husband was born here. We met, fell in love, got engaged and married in Hawaii.

Below is my top 3 favorite things to do in Hawaii (Oahu, Island):

1. Waikiki stroll, picnic and swim

2. Kualoa Ranch tour

3. Luaus and Hawaiian foods

KUALOA RANCH - The location of numerous television shows and Hollywood films

Hollywood films such as Jurassic Park, Windtalkers, Pearl Harbor, Godzilla, Tears of the Sun and 50 First Dates. TV shows including the old and new Hawaii Five-O, Magnum P.I. and LOST.

LUAU and HAWAIIAN FOODS - Paradise Cove Luau

I have been to a few luaus (Oahu and Maui) and so far Paradise Cove is my favorite. They lined up different activities for everybody to enjoy while waiting for the luau! Canoe ride at sunset, hat and lei headband weaving, Polynesian tattoos just to name a few.

Hukilau Ceremony

Probably my favorite part of all the activities. As guest, you can take part in the traditional hukilau pulling gigantic fishing nets from the sea with conch shell and island chants.

Which of these Islands you are most likely to visit again?

Oahu or Maui or Kauai

Hawaiian Souvenirs

My favorite Hawaiian foods

I love eating laulau! It is traditionally made of pork belly wrapped in taro leaves. I always get the salted butter fish.

Oxtail saimin soup which is unique only to Hawaii. This thin noodle soup dish is derived from the Filipino pancit, Chinese mein and Japanese udon. Another one of my favorite!

Shrimp trucks are everywhere in North Shore.

And yes, they encourage diners to write on the truck. So do not forget your permanent markers!

We tried Giovanni's shrimp truck and for those who are allergic to shrimp, you will be happy to know that they serve juicy and delicious garlic hotdog!

I made the mistake of ordering too quickly and did not read the warning below. Read before you order because there is NO REFUND.

On the other hand, BEWARE of their hot and spicy shrimp plate----they are REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hot and spicy!

ALOHA! Comments are appreciated. MAHALO!

I used to live right by Kualoa Ranch, next to Chinaman's Hat - I really miss the beautiful Koolau mountains. You've made me homesick for Oahu.
