Neshoba County Fair
Southern Style Real Life Networking at its Best!
It is quite possible that the epitome of Southern Style manifests itself every Hot end of July as the Neshoba County Fair. Deep in the heart of the heat of the summer and the Mississippi Delta, Neshoba county hosts a one of a kind extravaganza, loosely qualifying itself as a county fair, but more accurately, the political (and quite eclectic?) event of the year and the social currency of real life living.... the Neshoba County Fair. If you are anybody worth your salt in these parts, you have access to one of the highly prized real estate (during the last week of July anyway) of one of the little bungalow cabins that line the fairway, fully equipped with air conditioning and all the regalia involved with indoor partying at a supposedly outdoor event. If you know anything about Mississippi in the summer, you know the heat is absolutely unbearable, and what used to be a sippin' iced tea on the porch affair is now a kitchen table brew ha ha, albeit in the midst of the most anticipated annual gathering, in at least the northern section of the most southern-ish southern state. Let's take a look at what makes the Neshoba County Fair such a big deal.
It may look like there aren't many folks here, but trust me, they are hidden away in their little "beat the heat" cabins seen here. The real fun happens at night, when it's not so hot. Only the brave souls dare venture out in the heat of the day, like this little one, in his quest for fun beyond the bridge games and hotty totties that keep the adults occupied. There is plenty to do, but you won't find it here, where the locals and know-betters reserve their energy for the more exciting things to come!
Is it because they're "country"? - or "Sweet Southern Belles"?
Oh yes they did! - What? You think Southerners don't write about it?
Have you ever heard of Faulkner or Grisham? We take our Southern writers seriously down here! Why not write about the most incredible example of the southern experience?
The whole story here. Everything you ever wanted to know ... and probably stuff you might not want to!
Y'all Politics - Neshoba County Fair - Politically Speaking
If you're runnin' for anything, you better be lined up to speak at the Neshoba County Fair. I don't care if it's chief bottle washer, if you think you have a chance in hades, you're speakin' at this event. The Neshoba County fair cut its teeth on public speaking, and if you think you're worth votin' for, you're on the roster. Even if Neshoba county isn't in your voting district (i.e. Thad Cochran, Trent Lott) you're bound to have a spot to speak at the Neshoba County Fair.

Harness Racing - The Main Event at Neshoba County Fair
It's a little different, no doubt, but the harness racing at Neshoba County Fair has become the main event for many years running. Maybe it's the Mississippi version of the Kentucky Derby, Nighttime style... I don't know, but if you're at the fair, you're part of the race. End of story!
