How to Get to Waterside Va
The Waterside area of Norfolk is very simple to reach. From Virginia Beach, simply take Route 264 west to Norfolk. Several exits are clearly marked with Waterside Drive being the simplest.
Coming from Portsmouth, travelers can take the downtown tunnel (460), Portsmouth Tunnel (264 east) or take any of the water taxis or ferries from the Portsmouth waterfront.
Nauticus and Battleship Wisconsin
Nauticus, the National Maritime Center, is located at 1 Waterside Drive, on the downtown waterfront adjacent to Waterside and Town Point Park. Nauticus is an exciting 120,000 square-foot science and technology center exploring the power of the sea.
The facility includes the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration exhibits, and the historic Battleship Wisconsin docked alongside.
Nauticus exhibits include touch tanks, a shark petting lagoon, weather deck, and an Aegis-class destroyer battle simulation. Self-guided tours of the Wisconsin's main deck are allowed.
Harborfest is a great event in Waterside. The festival features seafood, bands, refreshments, tall ships and more.
Norfolk Jazz Festival
The Norfolk Jazz Festival is the region's longest running outdoor jazz festival. The event recruits nationally known artists as well as a selection of local and regional jazz favorites. The 2 day festival is held in Town Point Park.
Virginia Wine Festival
The Virginia Wine Festival is an annual event that no wine lover should miss. Each year, thousands of wine lovers flock to the banks of the Elizabeth River in downtown Norfolk, Virginia to enjoy this festival. The event has music, gourmet foods, specialty wares, and samplings of newly released vintages and past favorites from Virginia's premier wine-makers. Wineries from across the state offer chardonnays, merlots, cabernets and other fine wines. Wines presented during the festival are available for purchase by the bottle or the case throughout the day.
Virginia Beer Festival
This festival celebrates the fine art of beer making. The event features live music, food, and beers from Europe and America. The Virginia Beer Festival is often held in the Town Point Park at Norfolk's Waterside.
Just across the Elizabeth River is Portsmouth Virginia. Visitors can reach Portsmouth easily by taking Rt 264 west thru the Portsmouth Tunnel or the midtown tunnel (Rt 337/58) near Hampton Blvd.
