Ocean City, NJ

Updated on October 4, 2014

Ocean City is a Great Place to take a Family Vacation!

Are you looking for a family-friendly beach town? Ocean City, NJ is Americas's #1 Family Resort Town. We have spent at least a week there every summer. Ocean City has 7 miles of beautiful beaches and 2.5 miles of boardwalk for your family's enjoyment. There are wonderful shops, restaurants, and all kinds of activities on the boardwalk and in the downtown area. You can rent bikes, surreys, jet skis and more. We LOVE Ocean City!

Spend some time on the Boardwalk!

The boardwalk has it all! Restaurants and fast food, ice cream, fudge shops, toys, beach supplies for sale, all kinds of clothing shops, arcades and rides. There is something for everyone and it's all within walking distance of the beach. There are also public bathrooms and a music pier. You can rent bikes or surreys to ride on the boardwalk in the mornings.

Take a Surrey Ride

A surrey ride is a wonderful family activity! You can ride on the boardwalk in the mornings or in town during the day.

Breath taking beaches

Ocean City has 7 miles of public beaches. There are lifeguards for your protection during the summer season. You will need a beach tag for the beach--these are available on the boardwalk or on the beach and can be purchased for the day, the week, or the season.

Relax by the ocean!

There's nothing like the sound of the waves crashing up on the beach.

Don't forget the sunscreen!

Here's my favorite sunscreen

Ocean Potion: Kids Continuous Aerosol Spray Sunblock SPF 50, 6 oz
Ocean Potion: Kids Continuous Aerosol Spray Sunblock SPF 50, 6 oz

With seven kids and fair, Irish skin, we go through a lot of sunscreen! This is my favorite sunscreen. It's a continuous spray so it goes on fast, and it dries instantly. The kids don't mind this sunscreen, so they don't complain about wearing it. And it has an SPF of 50, so we get added protection. The price is right too!

The beach is one big sandbox for the kids

Our kids can spend hours digging and building sand castles.

Be Prepared for the Beach!

Make sure you have everything you need to be comfortable on the beach. Don't forget the umbrella, the beach chairs, the cooler, beach towels, and some play things for the kids!

Are you ready to hit the beach?

Here's our beach picture from a few years ago. You can see how our family has grown in the next module...

We love the Ocean City, NJ Beach!

We usually combine our beach trip with a camping trip

It's like getting 2 vacations for 1!

We have spent the past 5 years camping near Ocean City, NJ. That way we get the best of both worlds--a camping trip and a vacation at the beach. Our favorite campground is Seashore Campsites, which is about a 20 minute drive to Ocean City. You can find out more about how to turn your beach vacation into a camping vacation at Take Your Kids Tent Camping.

Seems to be a great beach at Ocean City. Liked your lens and the images, especially the one having lined up by height.

Nice lens! My in-laws live in Ocean City, so we tend to visit regularly all year round. My wife especially likes to walk along the beach during the offseason...

Spent a lot of time there as a kid. My Aunt and Uncle had a vacation home there on West Ave. Only a few blocks to the beach. Of the big three boardwalks (Ocean City, Wildwood, Atlantic City) it was always the most family oriented. Clean beaches and nice memories.

Our family always went on camping trip that were at Kabetogama, so there was always a beach whether we were at the primitive camping state park or on an even more primitive island (you dig your own hole). Those are some of my best family memories growing up and I can see that your family is having the same wonderful smiles implanted deep inside that will shine for years to come. I love the growing and adding family pictures. Congratulations on a heart warming front page feature!

When I was a resident of DC I visited Ocean City and Virginia Beaches quite a few times but now that I've moved back to my home town of Mobile, AL I'm so glad to be home. The surrounding beaches of this area are the best there is. I suggest Pensacola, Dauphin Island, and if you don't mind taking a Ferry ride visit the barrier island, Ship Island. The one thing I do love about New Jersey was the board walk and all the great bike riding.

I've been to Ocean City, Maryland; once as a 12 year old and again in my military years in the late 80s. It looked similar then to your pics of OC, NJ now. It brought back good memories. Thanks! Angel blessed.

I miss the Ocean City of my youth. Is Copper Kettle Fudge Shop still there? Campbell's Seafood, Chris' Pier and Night in Venice Boat Parade still around?

I'm a SJ girl, but haven't been to OC for a while. Thanks for the treat.

Never been there, but would like to. I grew up by the beach (see my lens on Sandbanks) and I really miss it. We live close to the coast now, but the good beaches are a decent drive away. Love the cute picture of the kids in a line.

OC NJ is a wonderful family beach vacation spot. I didn't see you mention this but it's "dry" so there are no bars and no alcohol is served or sold in Ocean City. This helps to keep things more family-friendly they say. We love riding bikes on the boardwalk in the early morning. And the beach is beautiful ...
