Knowing Patzcuaro, Michoacan. Mexico

Patzcuaro is a town in the state of Michoacan in southwestern Mexico. It was a city of the Tarascan people and then during the Spanish colony evangelized primarily by Vasco de Quiroga who became bishop of the region and founded the first cathedral of the state, then become temple of the Society of Jesus.

Patzcuaro is located 350 km (217 miles) about 4 hours drive, west of Mexico City, in the neighboring State of Michoacan

Patzcuaro Lake

It has 8 islands: Janitzio, Tecuena y Tecuanita (these are considered as a group); Yunuen y Pacanda (another group), another additional group composed by 3 Urandenes islands and finally Jaracuaro y Copujo.
