Portland Head Light

Updated on January 12, 2015

Portland Head Light

Portland Head Lighthouse is located on the shore of Cape Elizabeth, Maine at the opening of the Portland Harbor. The lighthouse was completed and first lit in 1791 after four years of building and is the oldest lighthouse in Maine. The most current keeper's house was built in 1891.

There is a museum in the keeper's house, however visits to the lighthouse itself are limited. In 1989 the lighthouse was fully automated. The view of the lighthouse and keeper's house is beautiful and well worth the visit.

They even have jigsaw puzzles for it! It should look beautiful on the wall once completed.
