Zanzibar: An Exotic Beach Vacation

Updated on October 12, 2011

An exotic holiday destination on the breathtaking Indian Ocean, get ready for an ultra luxury beach vacation at Zanzibar! The smooth sand filled beaches surrounded by tall palm and coconut trees and the dazzling waves formed on the top of deep blue water reflecting sunshine… this place is truly paradise on earth!

To maximize your enjoyment, all you need is to book a luxury private villa in a resort on the beach or slightly off the beach such as Residence Zanzibar! More about this later.

Zanzibar is an island in the United Republic of Tanzania. Its capital is Stone Town. The town is famous for its coral stone buildings and it was named after those famous 19th century buildings. People here speak “Swahili”, although English is also spoken there.

Tourism in the area is still at its infancy. It is expected that the number of visitors in the area will significantly increase in the coming years. Zanzibar has a history of rich culture and there are many worth-seeing places reflecting the cultural heritage of Tanzania. Top 10 of these places are listed below:

  1. Arab Fort
  2. Kelele Square
  3. Hamamni Persian Baths
  4. St. Joseph's Catholic Cathedral
  5. Shakti Temple
  6. Aga Khan Mosque
  7. Malindi Mosque
  8. Palace Museum
  9. The Peace Memorial Museum
  10. Beit-el-Ajaib (House of Wonders)

The main tourist attraction of this spectacular island is its amazing beaches! In the eastern part of the island you will find the picturesque palm-lined beaches and amazing coral lagoons. The western part is famous for powder-smooth sand beaches and ideal for water sports and swimming.

You can come to Zanzibar along with Pemba (the two main islands of the Tanzanian Archipelago) to enjoy the beaches. Alternatively you can come here as a part of a safari tour to mainland Tanzania.

This island is famous for its luxury resorts. A lot of tourists come here only for a pricy holiday retreat in the beach resorts!

Hi Andy, Looks like a great place to hang out and relax. I couldn't help wondering though, if talk about global warming is correct the water level only has to rise a couple of inches and those lovely rooms will be swimming in water! Better visit before that happens, I guess :-)

Yeah LuxmiH, that's a valid question. But you know people in Zanzibar are highly literate and tourists shouldn't be concerned about wearing the dresses they want. Thanks for stopping by!

A question arises after reading your travel tempting Hub... That is, what about the modest Muslem dress code. Are tourists permitted to swim in bikini's etc? I assume it is politically stable?
