Sacramento Area Gets Its Own Children's Museum

Opening in August 2011

Northern California has some great hands-on museums for kids, including the Exploratorium in San Francisco, the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose, the Children's Museum of Stockton and the Children's Museum of Sonoma County. Now, finally, the state's capitol will be opening its own museum for children to explore and learn.

The museum, which is officially located outside of Sacramento in Rancho Cordova, will be opening August 25. The museum was the brainchild of two teachers who joined with local businesses, children's advocates, and other community members to found the museum and create the non-profit organization that has led the efforts to open the museum.

The museum's exhibits will include:

- Waterways, where kids can experiment with the flow of water, build a boat, create whirlpools, and do other fun things with water.

- My Neighborhood, which will offer a new experience for each visitor by using role playing and storytelling to build cultural awareness.

- Baby Bloomers, an area designed especially for toddlers and babies to explore.

- Studio of the Arts, which will let kids explore artistic materials such as clay, fabric, feathers, paint, rocks, glitter, and more.

- Raceways & Airways, an area for kids to explore principles of objects in motion, including velocity, gravity, motion, friction, and acceleration.

- World Market, a child-size market where kids can learn about nutrition while sorting or measuring food, helping others at the cash register or stocking shelves.

This is a great lens. We have a great one here in San Antonio that my son loves to go to. We're actually celebrating his bday there in a couple of months. He never wants to leave when we go.

      Thank you for sharing this
