San Gimignano, Tuscany, Italy

Updated on January 20, 2015

"The Manhattan of Italy"

San Gimignano is one of the many small walled medieval hill towns in Tuscany, northern Italy, not far from Sienna and Pisa. It is often referred to as "The Manhattan of Italy" because of the many towers, although these date from medieval times and are somewhat smaller than their American rivals. The architecture is stunningly beautiful.

San Gimignano is a wonderful place to stay for a few days or visit while staying at one of the other Tuscan towns and villages, such as Montepulciano or Volterra or exploring the Chianti wine region
