Sandals Whitehouse

Updated on July 15, 2015

Sandals Whitehouse

Sandals Whitehouse, located on the southwest side of Jamaica, is one of our favorite places to vacation. It boasts a 2 mile private beach (no other resorts share the beach with Whitehouse) and provides a peaceful and relaxing escape.

We honeymooned here and loved it enough to return for our 2nd wedding anniversary. Extra bonus, it's all inclusive, so there are truly no worries once you're at Whitehouse in beautiful Jamaica.

This page is full of our personal photos and the reasons why we love and enjoy Sandals Whitehouse. I've also pulled in some links and research I found useful while trying to choose our honeymoon location. If you're searching for a romantic and quiet escape, this is your resort.

Happy Travels!

Italian Village Balcony - There are no bad rooms and EVERY room faces the ocean

Honestly there is no bad room at Sandals Whitehouse. Each has a gorgeous view of the ocean from the room balcony. Both visits we stayed in the Italian Village, one of 3 main buildings that house the rooms. Dutch and French are the other two "villages" each with their own qualities and pools/hot-tubs. If you're looking to save and don't particularly care if you have the perks that come with concierge we recommend choosing the base category. A longer stay over concierge service wins every time. However, I will admit that we loved the perks that come with concierge service and will probably be booking at least that category from now on. Many Sandals veterans advise to book the lowest room category that you'll be happy with. As an added bonus, Sandals will sometimes surprise you with an upgrade depending on availability. We were upgraded for free on each of our trips.

A Peek at the Main Pool - Whitehouse has three pools each with their own personality

The main pool is the biggest pool and sits next to the restaurants. It has a big swim up bar and lots of floats. The 2 other pools are smaller, one with a swim up bar and one near a beach bar. The main pool tends to be more active with a play-maker there in the afternoons organizing games and awarding prizes. The French pool has a volleyball net set up and the Dutch pool tends to be the quiet "readers" pool. It surprised me that the bar here closed at dusk, I expected people to be in the pool until the wee hours, but the property outdoors is pretty quiet at night unless they are hosting the beach party, and even that is set far enough from the rooms that you could still have a quiet night in your room if you choose. Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of night life and activities, but the majority are held indoors in the club or piano bar. The pools are still available for use, but the bars in/next to them are closed. That is another perk of having a concierge room, you can take your own bottle of champagne from your in room mini bar with you to the hot tub at night.

On our last visit it had been a little stormy and one night we had a long hard downpour. Some crazy people sat in the hot tub through the whole thing with their thumbs over a bottle of champagne that they were passing around. Hey, however you want to vacation is up to you!

The Bartenders will Fill these Right up for You

Bubba 52oz Mug Classic Black with Gray Bubba Big Straw
Bubba 52oz Mug Classic Black with Gray Bubba Big Straw

Whitehouse is all inclusive, take advantage and fill up one of these babies with a frozen Jamaican Smile and hit the beach. You can sip all afternoon without your frozen drink melting. This is a BIG mug, I prefer the 20 ounce shown in the sidebar of this page myself.

Giant Whirlpool Tub - This came with the upgrade

Every room at Whitehouse is great, they all face the beach and have similar amenities. We choose concierge level for our second round to get the room service and meal reservation perks, plus the convenient in-room bar. We were upgraded a level to a room with a giant tub, this ended up being one of my favorite perks and probably now on my must have list for vacations. As I said earlier though, if you're trying to keep expenses down you won't be disappointed in the base room. Our honeymoon was awesome, we didn't have an in room bar, but we still had a mini fridge stocked with water, juice and sodas.

I planned ahead and brought along some solid bubble bars (much easier to pack) from Lush. So happy I did.

Room Service - Concierge level rooms and above

Since we upgraded room categories we had an in-room bar that was stocked daily. Almost every evening as the sun was setting we treated ourselves to a champagne toast with a little fruit, cheese, meat and cracker platter from room service. Ah, I can feel the relaxation now. This wasn't part of our honeymoon and we didn't know we'd enjoy this perk as much as we did. Something to note, which actually was really nice. The cheese and meat platter was never once the same.

Coconut Rum - Yum Yum

There is nothing like a freshly chopped open coconut with rum. It is so incredibly refreshing and yummy. They only have these on the beach party night and it's the first station we hit. There is no way to replicate that taste here in the Midwest!

Water Sports - Included in the all-inclusive

We took this hydro bike out for a spin and found out they are a lot of work! Still fun and nice that we were able to try it for free. The couple that paddled this around after us, somehow managed to sink a wheel and required the water safety guys to come rescue them in a little speedboat. Glad it wasn't us!

Water sports are included, but I prefer my own snorkel gear for those lazy afternoons paddling around in the ocean.

Awesome Sunsets - For some reason I was never up for a sunrise

Even though the weather had been a little stormy. We were still treated to lovely evening sunsets on the beach. We enjoyed them from our balcony most evenings.

Bubbling Fountains - Water fountains & beautiful statues scattered about the property

With the lush grounds and the beautiful fountains and statues there is no shortage of photo backdrops at Sandals Whitehouse. We reserved an afternoon on both trips to do a photo walk of the grounds.

A couple of Peacocks walk the property - They are friendly

We often caught the pair of peacocks milling outside the restaurants in the afternoons and perched on the rooftops in the evenings while we sipped on martinis at the piano bar.

A beach bag comes in very handy to keep your personal items in when headed to the pool or beach. A flat one like this won't take up much space in your suitcase and is light.

Fly Away to Jamaica for Cheap - Light this candle and just close your eyes

Oh my goodness, this is exactly what Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica smells like. It is uncanny.... I don't know how Yankee Candle bottled that special mix of sun, sea and sweet tropical foliage smell, but they did. It transports me back there with a flick of the lighter.

Yankee Candle 22-Ounce Jar Scented Candle, Large, Sun and Sand

Yankee candles are king, and they are spot on with this scent. Burn it in the dead of winter to make your cabin fever float away. Burn it in the summer to get the party going. It's strong smelling without being overpowering. This is not your average "tropical scent". There is no awful pineapple or citrus twinge, it's refreshing like a clean breeze of salt sea air mixed with warm suntan lotion and light tropical flowers. I'd call it more musky than floral, but not manly, it's neutral. Sun & Sand is the perfect title, it is a day at the beach.

We really feel like Whitehouse is our home away from home. On our honeymoon we smiled in disbelief when the locals would say welcome home, but on our returning visit, we really felt what they meant. @anonymous: We did not receive any bug bites or rashes from our 2 visits, each a week long. I do however always pack some Off bug spray to stash in your beach bag as a just in case item. Congrats on your wedding! You will love Jamaica it is soooo relaxing and just what you need after the big day!

Hey what size keg did you guys take to Whitehouse for your drinks?

@JamesLM: Oh so jealous. May will be a great time to visit. If you're looking for really recent reviews, I recommend Cheryl's Travel Boards that are linked in the Resource Section here. They are full of Sandals returning guests and will have lots of insider tips to any changes at the resort.

@JamesLM: We took the 20 ounce mini mug at the recommendation of others and found that to be the perfect size. Here it is on Amazon. It's a good size, you aren't sick of a frozen mixed drink before it's gone, but big enough you aren't having to "float" back to the bar every 10 minutes. :) Our mugs were the envy of a lot of people at the pool. It was nice having a lid to prevent splashes into the drink as well. Another tip... Stick them in your carry on or somewhere you can get to them easily in your suitcase and you can fill them up at the Sandals Lounge before getting on the bus ride to Whitehouse.

Certainly our "home" away from home. I don't know if we'll find another location we enjoy visiting as much as Sandals Whitehouse.
